The way I see it, the Mustang is more livable, while the Camaro is faster. In the aftermarket, it is much easier to make a car faster than it is to make a car more livable.

Simply put...to my eye...the S550 Mustang is a better looking vehicle!

The new Camaro is a nicely engineered package...but the exterior styling is just too boring...looks to much like the previous model...

Just my 2 cents!

because it's just a refresh not a new model

A disappointment? Hmm. You say you haven't purchased one yet. That is part of the problem right there.

The S550 is a great car. I went for the EB because I just wanted the mileage this time around. Tuned it's acceptably fast for the street. It'll get faster as time goes on.

I'm at over 21K miles in less than 10 months, 3 of which the car sat parked as I was out of town. So really more like 7 months. Overall hand calculated mileage since new (updated it again this morning) is 28.2 mpg. Pretty awesome for a car that is this quick, handles this well, and is so comfortable and enjoyable to drive. And so far it's been stone reliable.

So no. Not a disappointment in any way.

I do wish they would do a hopped up 2.3 EB with the new aluminator shortblock and lots of boost. Say a factory 500+ HP and MRC with the GT350 brakes. I'd be on the hook for that one.

Chevy wanted to make a faster car so they gave it the vette motor. If you want to be faster than GT, get the SS

The s550 is a huge success. Try to put yourself in Fords shoes. Spend millions towards bumping the output and the 6th gen is being relased afterwards... so risk getting trumped after a big investment? nah. Minor revisions, let the 6g maro come out and the refresh of the s550 will get a bump. Its how the game goes.

Yes, it is a big disappointment as far as weight, wheel hop, noisy transmission, too tight of gear ratio in the transmission and panel alignment. Sorry guys but I've seen some 16's that also have some alignment issues, so that's not fixed. As for everything else, nice job ford!:ford:

I should change the title to "S550 GT disappointment"

When it comes to this trio, I think everything matters. The camaro before Gen5 has always outperformed the mustang but undersold it. The gen-5 took care of both, but there was the weight issue. Gen-6 has taken care of that. I think for true fans is important not to rest on your laurels. I'm mostly speaking for V8 owners. The Eco and V6 are all around great sporty cars for the non-enthusiast and the big sellers for Ford, but for the minority owners of V8s Ford should care about performance.
Next year for the first time ever, I'm tracking my car (mine has the track pack) and obviously after I learn how to track, I will want a car that's the best in its segment. Being a Mustang fan, I want Ford to respond appropriately. GM has done a far better job in not disappointing its V8 fans! Imagine what the ZL1 and Z28 have in store?!
I think you need to go buy an SS2 and be done. I wouldn't have that cartoon car, not because it doesn't put up numbers -- it certainly does. But read a full review like C&D. Those numbers come at the expense of cartoon looks, a cheap, cramped, dark interior, and a huge price tag.

I can happily live with a few extra tenths in the quarter mile and a few hundredths less lateral acceleration (heck, I have A/S tires, for goodness sakes!) for what I gain with the Mustang. If you don't see that, don't beat yourself up, get out and get what you want.

Hits:

1) Ecoboost
2) Flat plane V8 in Shelby
3) Independent Rear suspension

Misses:

1) Car is too heavy
2) Quality control (c'mon Ford!)
3) What's the point of the V6? Rental fleet sales?

In this price range and performance category/level I would just buy the one that you think looks better.

We are marketed to with race car metrics but which of our cars is a race car? When you travel from A to B in a given amount of time who got there before and after you? (No one) When you get into an acceleration test with another person, what do you win or not win? (Nothing)

The twin turbo or procharged shop cars on the forum aren't race cars, they are advertising tools.

My point is, don't worry about it, buy the one you like. I spent 30 years as a Chevy guy, only Camaros, Silverados, Corvettes, etc.... Honestly, I like the looks of the Mustang better than the Camaro so I daily the Mustang. Ford doesn't have something to compete with the Corvette so I have a C7, modified.....My wife hates the Camaro, Mustang, and Corvette so she drives a Mercedes.

Brand loyalty is ultimately a bad idea. When people post about if "we should be worried about the new Camaro" or stuff like that, it's sad. All we did was buy a car. We aren't on a Ford or Mustang team, we don't share in the profits, we didn't design the car, we don't get paid if they win races or sell more units.

Just relax and be happy with what you have.
Well put! It's crazy with all the whining about how the new Camaro is better in this way or that way. I bought my Mustangs because I love the Nameplate, I've loved the lines of many of the preceding generations and find this one to be incredibly sexy and refined. I understand we aren't getting the profits or sharing the victories- but this is where we disagree. We ARE on team Mustang. The same way people are Yankees or Giants fans. The same way we root for our heroes to win the races or make the touchdowns. We do have a stake in this and FORD knows it. They spent millions with focus groups and designers who have a history with this car as either admirers or workers "on the line".

Is this the best car in the world? Of course not! Is it better than every other car in its class? I'm sure their would be an argument against that as well. Bottom line is that it's a Mustang. It's the car we all love and bought because we love it. 99% of us will NEVER take this car to 9/10ths but for our daily drivers, for sharing the hobby and the love of this car with eachother, our kids and inspiring new generations of "Mustang people", it will do just fine.

Overall I think the S550 is a huge success for Ford, and us enthusiasts. It definitely has its' shortcomings but it's a very livable daily driver while also having performance on tap whenever you want it.

Fair enough. I am not a sports fan and don't have a team..... To me, my C7 and my Mustang are just cars and will be replaced at some point. For me, variety is the spice of life rather than one team or one car or one brand. Let me try them all! :D

im just saying for what they included, i can see their justification of that 5k premium. the performance alone is worth the 5k tag.
5k for 15hp and 50tq?

Mustang parts!
My '15 PP lemoned out, but I still replaced it with a '16 rather than going elsewhere. .
First year always has the issues that need to be worked out. I took care of the warranty parts here for 7 years, and saw it all the time when a new model came out. The '16 should be better :D
