Let me chime in here!

I am a service manager at a chevy dealership. I've worked for chevy dealers since 2007. Nothing is wrong with Chevrolet products. Sometimes it's a connection issue (the connection between the seat and steering wheel).

However, the Camaro IS a better performing car out of the box, hands down. But even with the 2016 model, the entrance into the car is too squished down and I hit my head (I'm 5'9") and the interior is still kind of corny.

The new mustang is a beautiful car bar none. The interior is MILES ahead of the Camaro, and that's a big deal for myself.

I am a track day person. I will be tracking my new mustang. I will be purchasing suspension mods to make up for the S550 handling shortcomings. I am not a fan of a tail-happy car on the track.

Chevy set the bar high in 2013 with the Camaro 1LE. It's a fantastic handling car and looks mean with the blacked out hood and wheels, but it still has that terribly low roofline and high door beltline and crap interior.

The new 2016 Camaro also has a shortcoming: NO RECARO SEAT OPTION!!

I would have seriously considered a new Camaro if it had the recaros, but probably would have ended up buying the mustang, because I've had 4 throughout my life and just love what they are all about.

I care because I'm Ford guy since I was a kid. I always hated that camaros were faster. The mustang has always looked nicer (to each his own), but up until 2010 Ford didn't care about horsepower. GM fixed the issues of the last camaro by going lighter, far better interior and over 450 hp/torque on top of having an aggressive design. I still like the Mustang more but I'm hopeful Ford will make changes for the 2018 model.
There's nothing wrong with criticizing one's favorite brand.
Not to be a dick, but Ford's use of carry over drive train components is very common especially for the first year. Even then, the S550 Coyote has more in common with the Road Runner than the previous Coyote...

Once they stop putting an interior in the Camaro that looks like Playskool designed it
I might go test drive one.

I think that Ford really missed an opportunity to make a dimensionally smaller car. The uptick in weight really left a lot of people flat. That was a disappointment for me.

My two cents with the following caveat, I'm not yet an S550 owner but should be in a month.

The only disappointing item to me is the weight. I'm coming from years of German cars: Audi's, BMW's, Porsche's.

I sold my Boxster about a year ago but find I miss a convertible so I began my search for a replacement. Was leaning new Boxster but too much cash for a weekend/fun car. Got very excited about the new Miata but too dang small and I simply can't deal with the lack of power. On a lark, I drove the GT vert because I love the sheet metal.

Turns out - I liked the drive.

So is it overweight? Yes
Could it handle more power? Yes - the more power I get (just got out of an S4), the more I want.
Are their some quality shortcuts in materials compared to the Germans? Yes.
Is the new gen Camaro probably a better performance vehicle? Yes.

So why the Mustang? It is fun to drive, looks great, doesn't beat you up, has modern conveniences. Bottomline, it is a smile maker. I drive for fun/entertainment. It may not handle like my Boxster but it's engaging to take through the twisties. In some ways it's the Miata formula in a bigger car - fun, fun, fun across many driving conditions. Hell, I like driving my truck because you have to drive the dang thing. Had a Lexus and hated it because it was numb - like driving a marshmallow down the street.

I considered waiting for the new Camaro (I'm not a Ford or Chevy guy) but the small windows/sitting in a bath tub feeling just doesn't do it for me. The new interior looks good but still a little kid racer for me (I'm 53).

Bottomline, the compromises of the S550 due little to dampen the upside so at this point I don't considered a disappointment or second rate in the category.

No The Mustang is perfect. Its bigger inside then the new Camaro. I at least like having the options of taking a 3rd person in my car. LOL

i didnt sit in a mustang before i ordered it either. they weren't in dealerships yet. but i knew it would be the best bang for buck.

now 1 year later, the best bang for buck IMO is the 1SS with dual mode exhaust, exactly how this is configured. watch the video, you'll be surprised at what's standard on those.... certainly a lot more than my base GTPP.

sure, it's probably about 5k more, but that's nothing.

"This car has more stuff standard, sure it costs more but so what?" Seriously dude?

Exactly. If you're not going forward, at least don't go backwards. Ford should have at least kept the weight of the outgoing car.

im just saying for what they included, i can see their justification of that 5k premium. the performance alone is worth the 5k tag.

In this price range and performance category/level I would just buy the one that you think looks better.

We are marketed to with race car metrics but which of our cars is a race car? When you travel from A to B in a given amount of time who got there before and after you? (No one) When you get into an acceleration test with another person, what do you win or not win? (Nothing)

The twin turbo or procharged shop cars on the forum aren't race cars, they are advertising tools.

My point is, don't worry about it, buy the one you like. I spent 30 years as a Chevy guy, only Camaros, Silverados, Corvettes, etc.... Honestly, I like the looks of the Mustang better than the Camaro so I daily the Mustang. Ford doesn't have something to compete with the Corvette so I have a C7, modified.....My wife hates the Camaro, Mustang, and Corvette so she drives a Mercedes.

Brand loyalty is ultimately a bad idea. When people post about if "we should be worried about the new Camaro" or stuff like that, it's sad. All we did was buy a car. We aren't on a Ford or Mustang team, we don't share in the profits, we didn't design the car, we don't get paid if they win races or sell more units.

Just relax and be happy with what you have.
This is great advice!

i got no complaints for what i spent truthfully... i really don't need anymore power for a dd. i think it looks sexy to begin with and even more so with it being lowered, wheels, wide tires, black roush spoiler, etc.

there is absolutely nothing that makes me wish I got an obama motors chevrolet camaro.
