So with 775 miles and only six weeks old I discover not one but two new distinct sounds coming from the engine. The attached video represents these two sounds fairly well I believe.
I do notice that at cold start-up both sounds are either not present or not detectable due to the higher RPMs and engine sound.
The first more noticeable sound is the rapid ticking or the infamous BBQ igniter noise, this sound appears to emanate from the center of the engine almost directly above the throttle body.
The second sound is like a bearing that is failing, kinda like a scraping sound. This noise is noticeable on the video if you listen as I move the camera around at certain locations.
Have yet to make a service appt but will very soon.

Anyone that has experienced this or has heard these sounds before please input.

Well, mine had a stuck lifter in the drivers' side head. After they replaced essentially the long block, the sound went away and they asked if I used Costco or BJs gas because there was carbon buildup in cylinder #5. I use gas from Sheets, right by my house, 93 only. I would get it checked out by your dealer immediately. Mine has been there 42 days. Oh, and it ticked before 2k miles and was probably there when I bought it with 1500ish miles.

Alternatively, you can Seafoam your car and start running the highest quality gas you can. If it goes away, my guess would be a stuck lifter on the drivers' side and the noise will come eventually come back. Mine was very noticeable in parking decks and next to jersey walls.

Best of luck!

Interesting they asked you about Costco gas, Costco gas is supposed to be part of the 'top tier gas' bunch as it has the extra additives that the other top tier gas companies use. They are even listed on the top tier gas list of approved distributers (http://www.toptiergas.com/retailers/). Where I am in PA I have to hunt down a Shell or Exxon, there are Sunoco's everywhere but they aren't listed as a top tier gas distributor.

I took it as them feeding me a line. I mean, how much carbon buildup could I possibly have in a car with 7600 miles? I mean, I used premium every time. Can't be THAT bad at Sheets, lol.

Yea, agreed.

I got in the habbit of hunting down "good" gas when I drove my mini Cooper S .Carbon build up in those turbo engines was a pretty big deal.

Thanks, I only use top tier gas but I did have some problems when I filled up at a local budget priced Arco. The car was emitting some funky smells after it stalled one time. Since then I have been using 76 or Shell and it's been running without those issues.
Going to set-up an appt with my dealership, just don't want the typical "that's normal" crap runaround. It's not normal as it wasn't running this way when I purchased it.
Was a grease monkey years back and did numerous engine tear downs and rebuilds when I was drag racing. I got use to valve lash ticking sounds of a mechanical camshaft. This engine should not be making this kind of noise.

Even if they say it's normal, at least get a receipt/paperwork from them for your documentation. If it is turns out to be a serious issue, better to be prepared with as much documentation as possible. At worst, it's just a wasted trip to the dealership.

Here are a few sound recordings I did on my GT. I think my engine sounds pretty quiet when listening to it in person. I'm moving a super sensitive microphone all around the engine in these videos. You can hear all kinds of mechanical noises, which are normal IMO. Every engine I've ever had in a car makes some mechanical noises. Trying to figure out if they are normal or not can be challenging.

Thanks for posting GT, after listening to your vids my engine ticking sounds more normal. Not sure why the engine sounds so different from when I initially purchased the car except that it probably components within the engine breaking-in and these sounds are evolving, who knows. There is the bearing/scuffing sound that comes and goes and when I had a Ford tech listen to the car it wasn't reproducing that same sound .
I could be overly concerned but I suppose its better to be safe than not. I'll continue to keep an ear out for the bearing thing though.

I have the BBQ ignitor tick on my car. Its going into Ford this Thursday for an engineer to look at it. I didn't quite hear anything but lifters in your video.

It has something to do with the oil as I've driven it more and the oil has become more black the sound has subsided. We'll do an oil change on site if the sound wont manifest.

Cascadia, did you have a stuck lifter on a new 2015 or an S197?

Mine had that tick for the first few thousand miles but it eventually went away. 11,000 now and no tick.

Was there any reason as to why it stopped? Have you changed your oil since the tick stopped?

Im curious as to how these issues come and go with no answer from Ford.

I did the usual 5,000 mile first oil change, but I think it was gone before then. It seemed to just work itself out. Honestly, I think it's just something that needs a good break in period to go away.
