Then why does the 350 have a drag mode ? Evan Smith will put the 350 in the 11's.I don't get why people are so hung up on acceleration from a stop. The 350 isn't set up to launch. Neither was the Z28. So, an M4 is faster than a Z28 in a drag race, and 350 non R. It's pretty much even with an R in a drag race. So what? Where are all the people hating on the Z28 because of that? They're not because they know that's not what it's built for.
Low to mid 12s are respectable. Not spectacular, but they're just not set up for the quarter mile. They need stickier tires for one. The 350 would have to be launched at pretty high RPM to really take advantage of the engine from a dig. With some tires and a more aggressive launch, I'm sure it will be a different story. Until then, just take it for what it is. It's a road racing car for the street.

What part of the car makes it not suitable for a 1/4 mile? Drag mode sets the shocks for weight transfer(I assume), 3.73 gears, tight trans spread so you are well into 4th gear at the stripe, light wheels, big sticky tires, high rpm power, sounds like a recipe for a great drag car to me. Of course its made for a road course, that doesn't mean it can't launch and accelerate through 4 gears. I bet an F1 car runs 9's with no problem, optimum, no, but still very telling. MT laid an egg, others won't.Just because a car has a drag mode doesn't mean that it's built for the drag strip. That's just there to help as much as possible with the suspension. The overall suspension, gearing, tire choices, transmission, and general idea of the car is not drag strip oriented. I think the R will get in the 11s, I don't know about the non R. With different tires, sure.

With first gear set up to take you past 50 mph, it's not a very good drag setup IMO. Yes 3.73 rear, but with an 8,250 rpm redline and the way the transmission is geared a 3.73 gearing in the rear is not especially steep.What part of the car makes it not suitable for a 1/4 mile? I agree that the gearing is less than optimal for the strip. I think third tops out at 116 or so, which means that you are just starting in fourth with 120 MPH traps. A shorter rear gear that gets you deeper into fourth at the end might make things faster.With first gear set up to take you past 50 mph, it's not a very good drag setup IMO. My 14gt500 must have been horrible as is the z06. 60mph first gear. Na gearing doesnt have to be short to be fast. While i realize both the z06 and gt500 have higher peak numbers, Im fairly confident the gt350s net torque is more then adequate to get out the hole very well and do well in drag racing.
