I don't think it comes with original fluid. Ford service manual (that service guy in the dealership showed me) calls for additive only and after synchros in the transmission were replaced.

I'm pretty sure it doesn't, it would specify that in the owners manual if it did
The owner's manual also calls for friction modifier for the rear diff when the non-pp cars have an open diff and the pp cars have a torsen that doesn't need it. EDIT: Non-pp mustangs have clutch style lsd and need the fm.

The manual isn't always right. The guys engineering the cars don't write it. Someone else does.

Either way xl-18 doesn't address shifting performance. Qdc is supposed to do that. Xl-18 addresses noise caused by the light qdc fluid.

I'm all for trying different things on these cars. There are many reasons other than engineering why these cars cone the way they do. I think a fluid swap would produce better results than just adding an additive. Keep us posted on the results.

No Mustang since at least 2011MY has an open differential. Non-PP cars have the clutch-style Traction-Lok limited slip differential.

My mistake. Never payed much attention to the non-torsen cars. I thought they all transitioned to the brake based traction assist.

Either way my owner's manual makes no distinction on which models get the friction modifier. It implies all gt mustangs.

The clutch-style diffs should get the friction modifier, I don't know about the Torsen diffs.

Anyone else done this? This really makes shifting smoother?
Added mine tonight..easy to do. Within 15 mins of driving I could notice a big difference. Like washing dishes with just water, then like washing dishes with soap. Makes it glide~~~ Great and easy mod. Yeah my dealer didn't know what I was talking about, just google it and order online. About $30 for it.

I was not sure if factory fill included additive, so I drained and filled with factory fluid and additive. I think it helped a lot.

I don't think factory fill has the additive. Just my experience

I have no issues with the performance of my MT-82 but that damn clunk/thud is bothering me more every day. Does this additive (or anything else) help that?

its not gonna help with the thud only the smooth/notichiness with the shifter

An upgraded audio system helps with the thud, can hardly hear it :D

Sweet! I was on the fence of doing a full fluid swap, but this sounds much more painless.

Did you have to remove any fluid first to allow for space to add this or did she just take it?
Fluid swap is really simple. I replaced the factory fill with Amsoil MTF. It made a good improvement.

I used a bottle pump and filled through the drain hole. Once fluid started flowing out of the fill hole, I put the plug back in and pumped what I expected to loose during the transition between removing the hose from the drain hole and screw plug. Took maybe 20 minutes total.

Well, that's a bummer. Ford went to all the trouble of making this car sooo nice and quite...just so you can hear the MT82 thud better. :frusty:

Couldn't the hose to pump new fluid in to the transmission get access the the fill hole? Seems like an odd way to fill the transmission.
