lol.... The Beavis and Butthead uhhh huh...uhhhhh huh came to mind on thin and deep..

I see your point though.. they are trying to pack as many as they can in there. I am just used to being out in the country with spread out yards, and planning a couple of hours to cut the grass. :(
Acreage anywhere near where I work costs a clanking fortune. On the flip side of that, I'm still a good 45 minutes to an hour out. If I got in much closer, I'd have to go Condo/townhouse. So Stepford Wife suburbia was the best compromise.

I'm a Web Developer by day and a DJ by night. Stuck close to major cities no matter what I do.

Looks like you have a friend across the street!
Yeah, my neighbor has a loud-ass 2011 GT that's been souped up pretty good. Sometimes he'll cruise with me to the meetups around here.

Fun thread, but...Is this the part where you tell the truth about the "$1000" hit?

Getting a great deal on a Base Ecoboost wouldn't exactly put a very good trade toward a Base GT. I think a lot of people just assumed you had a well optioned Ecoboost Premium and dealt with going Base for the sake of the V8.

C'mon give a clearer break-down. You coulda just declined to state, but you went bold with 1K, and then less deceptive with '$7500 price difference' and 'owing $7500 is not bad on a 30K car'. What is the deal exactly? Just curious, don't care for reals, but I have now read two full threads by you.

I think this money fudging on the trade is the same part of you that had fear over what other people would say about your 4Cyl car. You come into this thread ending that fear w/ V8, but don't want to get it rubbed in your nose you lost money.

I have told the truth here.

Getting a great deal on a Base Ecoboost wouldn't exactly put a very good trade toward a Base GT. I think a lot of people just assumed you had a well optioned Ecoboost Premium and dealt with going Base for the sake of the V8.
I had a base Ecoboost, and went for a base V8.

Okay. But if you "don't care for reals" why are you asking?

Anyway. Here are the numbers on the two deals.

Base Ecoboost: Purchase price: $23k after all rebates. (It was actually like $23,050 or something, but let's not nitpick, okay?).

Taxes and fees added some money to that. But I traded in my '12 F150 3.7L V6 (with NADA trade value of $21.5k and KBB trade value of $20.5k) for $21.5k. I owed $20k on that truck. Since I live in Florida this meant I paid taxes on a nominal amount of $1500 and change.

Dealer fee was $699 and BS govt fees were like $200-$300. I'd have to dig out the papers to be sure on those. This means out the door, cash, was a hair under $24k (I want to say like $23,700 or something -- I could look it up if you really want), since a bit of equity in the truck wiped out a lot of them. I then came in with cash.

Base GT: I purchased the base GT using the X-Plan price, since I am a member of the Mustang Club of America. Look up the X-Plan pricing if you are so inclined, the formula is easy to figure out. The great thing about X-Plan is that it ALSO wipes out BS dealer and document fees. So I didn't have to pay those twice. I didn't have MCA membership when I bought my Ecoboost -- I had no idea they had X-Plan pricing then, so I'm accounting this that way. But I think my original deal was actually a bit better than X-Plan anyway.

When I say I took a $300 hit on my base Ecoboost, I mean that they gave me $22,700 for it -- $300 less than what I paid. When I say I took a $1000 hit total, I mean compared to if I had just bought a GT to begin with.

The difference, $700, is having to pay double on some of the government fees (doc stamp fee, registration fee, etc... the government gets you). I didn't have the difference in MSRP in cash, so I had to finance it. This is around $7000. I'm too lazy to look up the exact number for you.

I bought the Ecoboost at Veterans Ford in Tampa, but the GT at Greenway Ford in Orlando. Here's the funny thing, though. They are sister dealerships, owned by the same company. That may have had something to do with their willingness to do the deal.

I think this money fudging on the trade is the same part of you that had fear over what other people would say about your 4Cyl car. You come into this thread ending that fear w/ V8, but don't want to get it rubbed in your nose you lost money.
I lost a f*cking $1000 in the end. I don't take that sh*t lightly, and I wish to hell I would have just bought a GT to begin with. But I'm also not the only one who managed to cut his losses on a deal, either.

And you're right about one thing. I didn't fear what people "would" say about the car, I was annoyed and frustrated about what they DID say. I shouldn't have let that get to me, I was being a little bitch, and I'm very ashamed.

Edit: In fact, I will even apologize to members of the forum, again, for bring that shame on myself. It was embarrassing, both for me and other Ecoboost drivers. I'm truly sorry, and feel as if I let people down.

But the reason it did get to me was because, deep down, I thought they were right. I wanted the V8 from day one.

I hope that satisfied your request for information. If it doesn't, know that I'm not scanning in my dealer paperwork and sending it to you. This is the f*cking internet, if you don't believe me, that is your business.

The numbers are all estimated/rounded, btw. I really don't feel like digging out the actual paperwork on your account. I mean no offense, but there is a limit to how much I care about whether or not you believe me. I genuinely hope this helps.

That was a good response and pretty clear how the deal broke down. In actuality you didn't even lose that $1k. I jumped in on this thread late in the game and was wondering why you were getting a little flak about the numbers. Taking the time and effort to get the xplan deal that most buyers don't get or even know about. Nice car man.

A base ecoboost with auto is over 27k. You're telling us you took over 5k off msrp to get it 23k otd? That's quite a lot of money to be taken off on a base car. Even then they gave you back that full purchase price a few months later?
I'd love to see some scans of the deal paperwork. Of course you can hide any personal information to protect yourself.

First of all, there are rebates floating around. There were two general $500 rebates floating around at the time. Then there were a couple other ones I qualified for (Geico customers got $100 extra, for example, at the time -- I think they still do).

Look up the TrueCar.com price on a base Ecoboost auto. You'd be surprised what they can go for. Then back out the rebates and you'll come pretty close to my price.

I'm not going down the paperwork rabbit hole. 1. Because of the effort involved (and if I miss blotting out anything personal, that's bad) and 2. because I'm a web developer by day, people are just going to accuse me of photoshopping it anyway. Take it or leave it, good sir, I do believe I've been more than reasonable here.

I don't think there's anything wrong with admitting you made a mistake. Seems like you corrected it as well, which seems like a pretty good thing to me.

As an FYI, if folks don't believe the price I got on the Ecoboost Mustang... they'd really lose their sh*t if I told them what I got the F150 for. Sticker on the '12 F150 was like $33.5k and I got it for $25k, new, after rebates.

For me, car shopping is like a second job. I research EVERYTHING. Rebates (most people would qualify for more rebates if they bothered to look!). Special pricing, like the X-Plan. TrueCar.com prices. I take pictures of dealer offers and then send them to other dealers to beat, then send that BACK to the original dealer to beat.

If you do these things, you will get a much better deal. MSRP doesn't mean sh*t when it comes to what the car is worth, or what they will be willing to sell it to you for if you do the legwork.

Dystopic, take some advice from John Wayne here, "Never apologize, Never explain...It's a sign of weakness."
I agree with that, you chose to organically share your thoughts and experiences as they were happening, others here chose to read them. You do not owe anyone anything, only by choice. Make your choices and do not apologize for something that is a personal thing, none of anyone's business how much you spent or lost. That is my thought anyway, it seemed pretty straight forward.
