At what point do you consider replacing your current Mustang with another one?

So, I am a car guy. I really like American performance vehicles.

Since 2018, I have had 3 Mustangs and for a brief period owned a Dodge Charger Scat Pack. I usually get the itch to try something different every 2 years or so. I currently own a '22 Mach 1 HP and thoroughly enjoy it. I have had it for a couple of years which is right about the point in time that I start looking around. But at this point nothing is really moving the needle for me. The Mach is pretty special. There is no new Ford manufactured GT350 or GT500. No new Camaro. Not a fan of the C8 Corvette. The current Charger is not even remotely appealing. And Toyota has yet to produce a supercharged Prius. (joke, I'm joking....).

My question is; at what point to you all (if you do) start considering another Mustang or other performance vehicle? Every few years? When your current vehicle starts having mechanical issues? When the warranty runs out? When you get bored with what you own? When you find a screaming deal on another Mustang?

My s550 will be my first and last mustang that I purchase considering I do not like the direction of styling and the ipad dashes for the new mustangs.

I usually keep most of my cars for at least 7 years if they are just a daily driver. But my fun cars, I choose a platform I like which in this case is the s550 Mustang and I build MY dream car from that platform.

Once I build a car for me, I don't ever sell it. I just keep making it better if I get bored. I currently own 2 other vehicles, One I have had 23 years so far and the other one I have had for 20 years.

Those two cars plus my current Mustang once it's built the way I like, I will never sell them. But I will probably add a new cheap daily every 7 years or so.

My point is I prefer built over bought. But you obviously have to buy a car first before you can build it. If you're bored of the Mustang after 2 years, you either bought the wrong car to begin with or you haven't modified it much or turned a wrench on it yourself yet. Once you do that, the car becomes very special to you.

When there's a new vehicle that I find more exciting and better than what I have.

But....given the trends in vehicles, I see nothing more enjoyable to drive than S550 Mustangs coming along. It's all screens and automatics and EVs now. The day of the analogue vehicle is mostly over.

I've had my 2019 for a couple of years, but after driving a 2021 ragtop, I'm exploring. My first car was an old Firebird ragtop....

I've often wished they made a GT350 convertible, I've often thought of making my own - just the body, not necessarily the mechanicals -

I’d say modify it. The Mach 1 is my favorite Mustang so far and the one I’ve owned for the longest time. Part of me still regrets not getting a GT350/R but it was the reliability of the Voodoo that spooked me. Now the ship has sailed and good luck finding one that is reasonably priced with an extended warranty. However, I do love my Mach 1 and plan to keep it until Ford comes out with a 429 NA Mustang with a manual and a better interior.

I really understand your thoughts. I get "the itch" every 18 months or so it seems. I would usually get something that I found interesting, would watch/read reviews until I was more knowledgeable than any salesman, drive said vehicle until I could confirm or deny the reports I'd read/YouTube videos I'd watched, and then start getting interested in something else. Occasionally I've suffered through particularly bad winters in a sports car and then move into something 4WD just for travel/need to get to work reasons. I tended to buy a little above my means so when the car started to lose value or needed a ton of maintenance, I would usually trade out; until I hit the GT350. The ONLY reason that I've had them and then let them go is financial. I've had three now (two '17s and the '19 that I want back more than I can express) and I never got tired, bored of any of them. Just only having the means to have one vehicle at a time won out the last time. Wanting one back is a pretty good motivator to be better with my money though.

I feel like I should be in some sort of recovery program at the moment, "Hi, I'm Dave and I'm a sweet car-aholic. However, I am in the midst of my longest clean stretch yet. I have 20 months since my last purchase."

I'm fairly certain that my S550 will be the last Mustang I buy new. As said elsewhere, the styling of the current car isn't my thing and never will be. By the time the next version rolls around, a middling GT will be $100K.

If anything, I'm going backward and swapping the S550 for another classic. Saw a beautiful '69 Cyclone CJ this past weekend at the local collector car dealer that I would be working on a trade deal for if I wasn't in the middle of dropping $50K into remodeling two bathrooms....

The car I have now, a 2021 GT/CS is special enough for me. At my age, I have not explored the limits of this car yet. It's more car than I need, and more fun than the roads around me will allow. I made it mine with unique and tasteful mods. I, like so many others, am not enamored by the S650. If Ford comes out in the future with an S750 that blows my socks off, then I'll bite. But I truly believe that what I have now will be my last Mustang. Old age and medical issues are taking their toll on me, and if, and when that S750 ever comes out, I will be too old to enjoy such a car.

If I hadn't totaled my S197 GT500, I'd still be driving that. I had it moded very close to where it was almost perfect for me, and was at the point of doing repaint's on sections of the boday. The month before I killed it, I had just had the hood, fenders, mirrors, front and rear bumpers re-done and the vinyl stripes removed and replaced with actual paint.

If I ever get my '18 running the way I want, it will likely be the same thing. I get it handling the way I like, and the power where I want it, and then it will be taking care of rock chips and maintaining it from there with a few appearance, or interior mods as the mood strikes. I don't rule out the idea of another mustang down the line, but I, like many in this thread, am not enamored with the S650 styling/dash. I don't see Ford or any other manufacturer going back to an analog presentation anytime soon, and I am in my 50's so, if I DO end up buying another mustang, it'll likely bean S550 or below platform, and probably be a turbo car or be bought with a turbo being the major mod going forward.

I'm also not keen on all the nanny state, watching me when I drive, possibly turning my car off for whatever reason some AI sees fit, phone home BS, either so newer probably won't happen for that reason as well.

I generally buy cars with the expectation of them being lifers... Occasionally things happen that convince me (or force me) to buy something new. Those things happened in rapid succession recently, and I have a fairly new garage right now. But this is it. All of these cars have been either killed off or are being replaced by [IMO] inferior versions.

This is my coffin garage, hopefully... Actually maybe not hopefully, because I do hope someone might make something that gives me the itch again. Maybe the Toyota GR GT?

Its EXTREMELY expensive to trade up cars every 2 years and pay depreciation on new vehicles.

I'll switch cars when a different used car is really turning my head or if/when the mustang gets totaled. I have no problems doing maintenance or replacing worn out parts once and a while.

Currently my car is extremely competitive on track and at autocrosses with anything in it's (used car) price range and I love driving it, so its staying.

When it dies and isn't worth fixing. So at 38k miles on my 19 gt it will be awhile at 5kish miles a year
