Why do you own a Mustang (or Mustangs)?

So, I've been reading a lot of posts lately on here and the common theme in general is that Mustang owners really like their Mustangs. It got me to thinking, why did you folks buy a Mustang?

What was it about the car that made you buy it?

Is it just a car to you or are you passionate about it?

Do you have a short Mustang story that illustrates your love of the Mustang?

Would you buy another?

I will start; I like the design, especially the S550 and how it still resembles a Mustang (if that makes sense). I like the capabilities that come with these cars..... and the sound, whether it is the Voodoo or Coyote. Love them. Va-Room!

I am indeed passionate about Mustangs. It is part hobby, part therapy, part community engagement opportunity on 4 wheels.

Very short story; i had JUST bought my current Mach 1 HP and was cruising down the interstate about 2 hours from the dealership and on my way home. I was grinning ear to ear and oblivious to everything. I moved to the fast lane to pass a truck and pressed down on the gas pedal. Whoomp! Triple digits without breaking a sweat and I was in loooove. And the highway patrol officer who pulled up beside me was not..... We locked eyes, he grinned (I still had dealer plates on the car) and he held up his thumb and index finger about 1/2 inch apart as to indicate I was that close to getting a ticket. He moved on and I thought even state troopers love Mustangs!

I would buy another. In a heartbeat.

Back in 23’ I looked at all the “usual suspects” low mileage Camaro, Corvette, Mopar everything: Charger/Challenger etc and the Coyote motor is what sold me…I’m glad I went with this platform.

If I didn’t go Mustang I’d probably have a 3.0 Supra and build it out from there…

While I no longer have a Mustang, I have owned three (1965, 1967 and 2018). I bought the first because it was decent performance for a low price. I bought second because a lady totaled my 65 when she blew through a stop sign in her Imperial (a Mustang is no match for an Imperial). I bought the 2018 because I wanted a convertible with a back seat that people could sit in. You'd be surprised how few cars actually fit this requirement. I found one Mercedes and one BMW model that would have worked, but both were over $100k, so the Mustang GT was an obvious choice.

I kept it for several years but I had several issues with it, including one major issue. Because of severe arthritis in my spine, I needed a car with better seats.

My son owns a 2023 GT500(?) and a grandson has a 2025 Dark Horse. So, they were impressed by my Mustang. But, I've bought my last car.

I owned a ’97 Corvette for more than 20 years, but eventually realized I was approaching the age when I’d be expected to adopt the official Corvette uniform. The shorts, socks and New Balances just weren’t me, so I bought a GT350 instead.

Besides, Mustangs are where I started. I learned to drive in 1971 in a ’66 coupe with a three-speed on the floor, and I’ve owned my ’65 fastback since 1984—although it has spent most of that time undergoing what may be the world’s longest GT350-tribute restoration.

So apparently I own a Mustang because, after a brief 20-year Corvette detour, I finally came back to my senses.

I grew up with the Mustang; I have watched it change from 1964/65 and I was 14 years old when it was first produced. It was the coolest car ever made. I have owned 4 of them 2 1967s one fast back and one coupe and now I have a 2011 V6 fast back automatic and a 2015 GT pp premium fast back. They are still the coolest cars ever made. Think about it 62 years of production without a break and still going. It is the longest continuous running sports car in America. There is a reason for this title. People love this car!

Mustangs why? I have 2 Fn's a Gt 5.0 convertible '21 and a '19 Bullitt 5.0. I'm not even sure why, I keep asking my self the question. The Bright highland green won the wife over and i guess the Convertible is a must after our sea change in '21.

Only issue is its too hot here for about 7 months of the year to have the roof down. Its dead of winter at the moment and I still got a sun burnt nose this week.

Value for money is hard to beat , it’s my poor mans supercar I call it. Ive got a sleeved built motor now , and all I need is a couple of spoolie boi’s / wuhan whistles and it will be as fast or quicker than some Supercars and it will owe me maybe $100K aud. You don’t get much as fast for that kind of money in Australia. You would have to spend double that.
Besides that, it’s a pretty good all rounder. Cooled and heated seats , handles well , stops well , 25 to 28 MPG or 8l/100kms on long trips. All in all it’s a pretty reliable combo for most people. And I really do like the coyote engine and even though complex , once you break it down it’s not.
I do 100% of all the work on my car and I find it very easy to work on. Most things are relatively simple in nature. Parts are cheap and readily available and also a billion aftermarket modification parts that can turn an ok driving car into a pretty stout all round car that only comes down to what you want to do with the car. The possibilities to turn this car into whatever “type” of car you want it can have many faces so to speak and the option available are endless. Just about every person I have taken in mine love it and comment how effortless it just cruises around and it very comfortable as it not what they expected. It’s a big heavy beast of a car but it carries that well. I’ve been in twin turbo , PD supercharged and century mustangs they all have there good points… coyotes just love boost pick your poison and you have your self a pretty quick , pretty fun , pretty reliable combo to enjoy

I would agree with Tim above, great value for money especialy in the UK. Anything else with the level of performance and comfort in RHD would be a lot more money or a lot older.
I have friends with Mercedes, BMW's and Jaguars. All spend a lot more money on keeping them on the road than I do and many jobs are not practical to do at home. On the Mercedes no aftermarket tool we can find will reset the service indicator so that is £800 for an oil change and look over by the dealer. The Jaguars are so fragile they seem to need to visit a main dealer every few months for fault or recall. The BMW is a nice car but he paid more than 50% I did and a set of brakes was close to £1000 non genuine. BMW wanted £1600.
I know our cars are not perfect but it does not seem to matter how much you spend these days not much is. The BMW has got a recall for the fuel injectors and he has been told not to drive it as it could destory the engine.
Rarity is also another thing in the UK. There are few that I see around me but I can be driving all day and not see one. I was waiting at a set of lights and the car next to me wound down his window and asked me to give it a rev.

Back in 2010 I owned a 2000 Trans Am ws6. It was a very fun car, but it was built like a piece of junk. I replaced almost everything under the hood (and inside the car) besides the engine. At one point it seemed like every week I was replacing something.

Plus the only car that whooped me was a 2003 cobra. So I ended up getting rid of the Pontiac and buying a 2003 cobra a few years later. I instantly loved the car. It was easier to work on, more durable, more reliable. Never had any issues with it. The interior was better. Literally everything. I went from an f body to the car that literally "terminated" it, and I could see why.

Sold it in 2015 and in 2020 I had the itch again. I wanted another cobra but they were too much for me in 2020. So I gave the new mustangs a try. Again I fell in love with the s550. It's a great car all around. I plan on keeping it for a long time. I still get the itch for a cobra but the price on the ones that aren't beat up is too much for my likings.

Well I have had a C6 and C7 Corvette, a SVT Raptor but back in 03-04 time frame while everyone focused on the Terminator Cobra though I did like them too especially Mystichrome, there was just something about the 03-04 Mach 1 and I told myself I will buy a Mach 1 one day and now I bought a new 2023 Mach 1.

Loved Mustangs since I was about 10 years old and rode in my uncle's Foxbody 5.0. Been hooked ever since.

I’ve loved cars since I was a little kid, something I picked up from my dad. I loved the Foxes and early SN95’s when I was in high school (not a New Edge design fan), as far as Mustangs go. Also loved Camaros. My first car I bought for myself was a Chevy Cavalier Z24, decent power for a V6 back in the day. From there, moved to an F body Camaro SS which I kept for a bit. Then a Monte Carlo SS (with the V8) before Chevy put those out to pasture.

Had to get out of gas guzzlers for a while due to a long commute for work, then my kids came along so it was on to 4 door sedans for me while they were little. Fall of 2019 I started looking at Camaro’s, Chargers, Challengers and Mustangs. It was time to get back to fun cars since the kids were getting older. I thought for sure I would end up in a Camaro, the visibility was pretty terrible and killed that car for me. The Challenger was cool but I didn’t like the way it handled, it felt like an old muscle car. The Charger was nice, I was leaning that direction for a while. Then I drove an S550. I had admired the design since it debuted, but had never actually driven one. I loved everything about it once I drove one.

I spent so much time in the Chevy world, I didn’t know a ton about the S550. I wanted something relatively inexpensive to dip my toes into the Ford world, so in January 2020 I bought a Triple Yellow V6. Loved the car, the color, the V6 had pretty good power. It didn’t take long for me to want the V8. Started looking for V8’s in late 2021/early 2022 then decided to just order one the way I wanted it. Almost 4 years later and I still love the car as much as the day I took delivery.

As to the OP’s final question, would I buy another one? Hell yeah I would. I’m a fan of the S650 too.

Wanted a "cheap" fast and fun daily. Planned on going with boost from the go. This car does not disappoint as it's comfy, reliable, fastish(now), and decent mileage.
