Has anyone else ever wondered why the mustangs haven't had a sunroof since the fox body? I for one would like to have a sunroof/targa/T-top option.

Good question.

I'd seriously consider checking a box to get a sunroof. It would all depend on the cost and extra weight. I know my wife is nuts about sunroofs and I do like them a good bit - we'd certainly get some use out of it.

Let me be the first in this thread to mention the glass roof. I've said it before and I'll say it again.....I really wanted that option! But it just aint gona happen based on what we've known for months now.

They Only said that the Fixed Glass Roof wouldn't be returning for the S-550. Which left to interpretation says that A Glass Roof Option that Isn't Fixed is in the works...

Venting quarter windows would work, too. Someone made them for the S197, but the windows are so different in the S550.

I've never been a fan of a sunroof. I have one on my Fusion, but it never gets used. Don't really get the purpose of a hole in the roof.

To each their own but it should at least be an option.

The biggest use I have for a sunroof is to leave it open as a vent in the summer months. Helps keep the easy bake nature of a car down a little.

Sunroof and windows open means I don't use my air conditioning for 98% of the year.

Factory installed sunroofs & T-tops became popular when the auto mfr's. could no longer build convertibles in the 70's due to safety concerns.

Mustang II's and FOX bodies had sunroof & t-top options for this exact reason.

As aftermarket convertible conversions became more & more popular, the auto mfr's. began to take notice and figured out how to again build their own. So in 1983, Ford again offered a convertible model Mustang and continued to offer the sunroof & t-top options as well since they were already engineered.

Typically vehicles with a factory sunroof option, don't have a convertible version.

The current S197 Glass Roof began as an aftermarket option by Classic Design Concepts. I'm guessing Ford liked it so much, they decided to offer it as a factory option starting in 2009.

For those who want and open top experience Mustang, Ford would rather see you spend $5000 for the convertible option. Offering a $1000 factory powered sunroof option would likely bite into convertible sales.

Makes sense, but I hate convertibles and I like feeling wind in my hair.

I agree Dirk ...

I'd have seriously considered a $900-1000 Sunroof option on the 4 new Mustangs I've bought since 1994 if it was available.

My current Mustang is a 2011 V6 M/T Mustang Club of America edition that is the best car I've ever owned. It's MSRP was already $8,565 (43%) more than the 2004 Mustang it replaced, so I did not get the Glass Roof option.

If I really hated the 2015 Mustang after the reveal in early December, I was planning on ordering a brand new '14 and I was likely to add the $1,995 Glass Roof option this time around.

Of course this Glass Roof option does not give you the "wind in your hair" you desire, however the Camaro has a $900 Powered Sunroof option and it comes std. in the Premium Genesis Coupe models ... maybe one of these cars would be an option for you !!

I'm thinking, hoping, praying for a sliding glass roof a la Lincoln MKZ. Without a rear hatch, it's do-able.
