I'm just going to copy what I said over on 7g:

That's a great achievement! I'm glad that they included that it's a street legal variant, so we don't have the endless arguing here about that. I still think it's asinine that you have to apply to Ford to give them a ridiculous sum of money, but whatever. I'd also like to know how much this will cost since the reality of the GTD is that the 325K base doesn't include the regular track pack (or whatever it's called), so they're really 400K+ cars before the Competition came out.

Also, just imagine what this car would do if Ford had gone all-out for the 7th gen and wasn't using an old steel unibody from over a decade ago. It would shave significant weight if they could use aluminum. Of course, that would likely increase the price as well.

I mean, just how amazing. Gets rid of all the asinine arguments people were trying to make when the leaked run came out.

You can't buy it (yet) and it looks like it's on slicks. Nothing changed.

I knew it. I thought they could go sub 6:40 but this is close enough. I knew they'd do a comp model. In a word, yes. Yes, yes, yes!!!! This is awesome. Congrats Ford.

There is an IG picture floating around that shows the tires as Cup 2 R
That's the stock GTD tire

If they were using those, why would they have "New high-performance tires" in the press release?

Now This is what we are talking about! This is what we expected from the first GTD. GO AHEAD ford. Stomp on ‘em. Porsche who? ZRwhat?

I still think it has a 63X in it. But dang, this is nice. All the GTDs are street legal so it maintains the important production car distinction as well.

The price is crazy but so is the performsnce. Just…WOW. Love a good redemption story. Can’t wait to learn power figures and acceleration metrics.

the pics I took of the car at the LA Auto Show were nothing compared to seeing it in person. Looked like it would eat the ‘Ring for breakfast. But as soon as power and weight figures were released, it caused some skepticism.

Based on the way this sounds and moves, it looks like both power and suspension have been dialed in further. Hoping to hear of some weight reduction, but even if not, the car is finally worthy of its hype. Consistent too. Their warm up lap last time was crazy fast. Then it went faster. And now it went faster than that. Congratulations Ford and Multimatic. The hard work in the face of serious competition is paying off.

Man I gotta say, you did a lot of complaining, moaning, and bitching about nothing. Of course they are going to refine it. It is a process. Of course there were going to be improvements, again its a process. You jumped off the GTD train so fast you should change your name to Usain. If you buy the first year of a performance car, well, you kind of gotta realize you're not getting the best version, only the first.

The rub...

Ford says "Competition Model" for now and that a limited, serialized, street legal version is coming. Street legal means no slicks so there's a deviation there. The arguments will never end and I suppose, rightly so.

incorrect. I did a lot of hyping the original GTD, followed by a more realistic take once the power and weight were revealed. This was born out with the disappointing track numbers. I also pointed out ford/multimatic did nowhere near enough with the Gtd in light of the zr1 coming out, which I predicted would kick its butt. And it did. So if I’m guilty of anything, it was being right. I’m a mustang guy til the end but I’m also a realist. Not a fanboy with their head in the ground. I was also right about the mark4 being a race only car and making a distinction between that and the Gtd which is a street legal production car. Seems ford got the memo and has clearly made the distinction in this update.

so you are simply witnessing ford finally making the Gtd what it should always have been. It’s rough being one of the few realistic people on the forum but somebody’s got to do it. Where mediocrity exists, I call it out. Where excellence exist, I give it it’s just due with legit praise.

in my line of work, we have to be detail oriented perfectionists or you lose business.m and reputation.

ford promised greatness with the GTD but got whooped by GM of all companies. Not ideal? But you had to hand it to GM. They swung for the fences and impressed.
Now finally, Ford has come out with bad intentions and delivered the knockout blow in tound two. Peak Mustang whops peak corvette. That’s epic stuff. They did their job. Now Hipefully when the car in on americ public roads, the YouTubers redo their videos and talk about how the zr1 can’t touch the Gtd this time.

He was really quick to jump back on the wagon after bitching about the car for so long. Ford pretty much said from jump they were going to go back with the car and make improvements. While the weight, power, etc. may have been disappointing initially, some chose to ignore that statement by Ford. Others did not, then the Whipple whispers started and then most should’ve known Ford was coming back with an improved version of the car. Sucks for the early owners that may have been interested in the Competition model.

Let's not get too far ahead of ourselves here. When Ford actually produces this car and it gets independently tested by multiple sources, on the road course and drag strip, then we'll see.
