New Lap Time From MotorTrend by Randy Pobst

Hi Mustang lovers, I was surfing on the internet about lap times and i saw that our beloved Randy Pobst did another hot lap time with the new 2015 Mustang GT. The old record was 1:24.32 and the new one is 1:24.29 at streets of willow race track. It is only 0.03 seconds faster than the previous lap time but i say its still a respectful time. The only two times the 2014 Stingray recorded were 1:24.55 and 1:24.60. I believe Randy was the driver on one of those runs. The GT PP is far more impressive than the previous GT, Boss 302 and LS. The 2011 Z06/Z07 was .01 faster than the 2015 Mustang. That's the conversations people are having now.

This GT was loaded to the brim too, it made the car 3820lbs.

The 2014 Stingray times were done by anybody guess, so you can't read to much into those times if they were not by Randy. It was the same with the z06 times. The one time Randy ran the Z06/z07 it was almost 4 sec faster then the 2015 GT. Just shows what a different driver can do.

Yeh but 2x the car cost, really priced to compete with the R8, Maseratti, high end Porche etc of the world, and only 4 seconds on a lap (4 seconds out of 1 minute 24 seconds, or 84 seconds- so a whopping 5% better time?). THAT's what is impressive about the 2015 Mustang.

Four seconds on a road course is a freaking eternity.

And a 1:24 lap is short compared to VIR or Road America(let alone the Nurburgring). 4 seconds is a massive difference. Mentally picture a car crossing the finish line then count out one-Mississippi, two-Mississippi, three-Mississippi, four-Mississippi.

Fair enough but consider in an endurance race you would have to factor in the Z06 engine swaps during pit time.
