Expected Tire Wear, but not like this?

I did find them, need to study up.

Right now I'm trying to figure out how to order the non CFTP GT500 bespoke Pilot Sport 4S tires. Michelin website is giving me unclear results which are the bespoke ones.

For the front, the website suggests MSPN 06890, but the tire with the FOR suffix is listed as MSPN 73134.

For the rear, website suggests MSPN 20432, but the one noted as "acoustic FOR" (whatever that means is MSPN 60304.

I thought I was being slick/lucky, heading into winter with my Cup 2s with 6K miles and 2 track events just about worn out. I wouldn't need to worry about them getting cold this winter since I'd replace them in the spring.

Took the car to a cars and coffee on Saturday, just about to pull in and get a low tire pressure warning, right front. Obviously a lot of car guys there so we try to figure out what I ran over, and if I could plug it to drive home, again worn out cups 2s.

I get a floor jack, take of the front wheel, and wow some weird wear. What is the inside edge of a cup 2 supposed to look like? Mine look like something was rubbing the last 1/2 of width, tire is just missing there, like a 45° chamfer. Looks like it was rubbing on something. Look around in the wheel well, all looks good, like nothing was rubbing. I do have Vorshlag C&C plates and a track alignment, but it looks like the entire car had been driving on the innermost 1/2" of tire.

Has anyone noticed wear like this before?

Did try to plug where it had worn through, but the rubber was too thin around it, it did hold about 10 psi, but I called for the flatbed. The 10 psi was enough to roll it on and off the flatbed and in the garage after it got off the truck.

This same thing happen on my original set of Pilot Sport 4S. Car is lowered about .75 inch. Only had 16k on tires with no signs of odd tire wear.

When I replaced my front tires, they were showing cord on the inside edge from 28,000 miles of street driving.

I can see 2 track days doing exactly that.


Now, my static alignment had -1.2* of camber and zero toe. I think it matters more that you're going around curves fast in a nose-heavy car, with just enough front tire.


Well, think about it: When you're making a hard right turn, and the car leans to the left, it changes all your tires' camber relative to the road.
The right front tire really might be driving on the innermost 1/2" for the duration of that turn.

It's seen zero track time, the suspension is completely stock and the alignment was verified to be factory specs after I got new tires. Here's what both of my font tires looked like at 19k miles.

I was using 33 to 34psi most of the time (though the weather screwed with my pressures sometimes) and my tires looked about like that at 28,000 miles.

Stangnut must be driving harder than me.

I eventually figured that out as well. But I don't see where TireRack reveals the Michelin codes for the tires. Which is good for them I guess, because I want to figure out how to shop around.

Last set of tires for my F150, BJ's actually had the best pricing. They show 3 different 4S tires (Fronts) on their website, they include the Michelin codes, but the 3 they have don't match what I think are the codes for the Ford bespoke tire.

The one rear they have doesn't match either.

Wow, that's crazy given the you had it at factory specs.

My inner edges were cupped to SHIT after 15k miles (PS4S). Got an alignment and went toe 0 and camber only -1.5, hopefully this set does better.

So were mine! I changed to Continental Sport Contact 7 (different name in the US) and after 20k+ miles they were completely fine with no changes to the alignment. PS4S seem very prone to cupping.

He’s trying to confirm the Michelin part number. The TireRack links I sent him don’t have the Michelin P/N’s on them. Not sure if you know them or can see them on your tires

Yes, thank you for the clarification. So I decided I should look at my Cup 2s and see if they have the Michelin MPSN on them somewhere. Using the Michelin site, the list of Cup2s looks like the below. Assuming FOR means Ford, my fronts should have 49942 on them somewhere. If they do, I couldn't find it.
