That’s the GTD fam… apparently “mid” engine doesn’t = rear engine.

Something with how it sits behind the front wheels now classifies it as a mid engine car

The idea has been floating on the interwebs since the C8 came out. I’d be surprised if Ford went that route. Then again, Farley has said that the V8 will live on in the Mustang well into the 2030’s, so maybe the next gen they go mid-engine?

Idk. A mid engine two seat smaller lighter car with a V8, maybe call it a Mustang II. Benchmark it against a Porsche GT4.

while that would help in terms of weight distribution somewhat, it still loses out to rear mounted engine layouts due to the traction benefits of placing the weight where it benefits acceleration.

But any benefit is benefit. Just won’t be compareable to rear mounted.

what would be great is the see Ford develop a new turbo V8 GT To spank down the ZR1/X. People wouldn’t be in such a rush to compare Mustangs to corvettes then.unfortunately the GTD will still be in a losing discussion due to its ridiculous price tag.

The Mustang isn’t a 2 seater, so rear engine would always be a bit of a challenge with the long hood/short deck proportions.

Wouldnt be surprised if the next true generation Mustang was mid engine and AWD.

Still waiting on this! Though I think the window for the S550 has passed.

Ive never heard anyone call the GTD mid engine. It has the weight balance of a mid engine due to the trans being in the rear in the car. I doubt we will see a production mid engine Mustang.

I sure hope not. While the newer Vettes are mid-engine, I’m just not a fan. If a car is created as a mid-engine that’s fine. I just hope they don’t try to turn the Mustang into some kind of super car competitor.

The GT is the mid-engine car from Ford.
Makes no sense to go mid-engine with the Mustang.
Well that’s a comparison that makes the Mustang vs Corvette one sound reasonable (it’s not). Ford made it clear with the Mach-E that Mustang is no longer a model name. It’s a brand name. So a mid engine model, a four door model, hell even a pickup truck, make sense. What doesn’t make sense are those who just refuse to see this.

It was attempted in 1969 w/ a BOSS 429:

I don’t think Ford will do any mid-engine Mustang when they have the GT40 platform that already satisfied the “void” before GM with the 2005 re-intro of the Ford GT and the cost to do one (a Mustang) wouldn’t be mass production to the general public. If done it would only be niche (like the GTD) and only those with deep pockets would be able to afford…
