What Octane are you using for yout V-8? The Owner's manual says nothing less than 87 (if I recall correctly) but does anyone using higher octane see a difference in using the midgrade to high octane gas?? Just curious.

Thanks in advance.......

I think I read somewhere that if you run 87 it will decrease HP and TQ. I'll be running no less than 92

92. Pure gas. No ethanol. Always.
I have run my last 2 tanks of 90 octane no ethanol. Wish I could find 93 no ethanol but no luck as of yet.

What are you paying per gallon? I got mine for 2.99 yesterday in the Atlanta, GA area.

I run 91, best we can get in Socal. Not running the highest you can makes no sense. What do you save running 87? 3 dollars a tank, maybe. If you cant afford 3 dollars get a different car.

I use their app. Works great. The closest 93 is 31 miles away.

Here's the sign from where I filled up with gas on Saturday on Long Island:

They actually dinged me an extra $0.16 for using a credit card, so I ended up paying $3.25, but whatever.

Point is, you've got a $0.70 cent difference per gallon in cost. I drive about 10,000 miles a year, and I've been averaging 16 mpg in this car... do the math on that and it comes out to a difference of $437.50 per year between regular and premium.

The question becomes... is that tiny little difference in performance you get between 87 octane and 93 octane worth $437.50 per year? So far I've been giving it 93 octane to be cautious, but at some point I'm going to decide that the engine's been broken in enough and doesn't need to be babied. I'm certainly never going to notice the 1% drop in horsepower.

I used 93 octane up until yesterday. I filled up on regular for 1.86/gallon--cost me $26.

There's been a ton of discussion around this already and the general consensus is that you lose 1% hp by going with 87 in the 5.0. I agree with Jimmy (never thought I'd say that). Picking up groceries or dropping the kid off in the morning, I won't ever notice a 1% drop in power. Depending on mods and usage, your miles may vary.

Its not just the horsepower, though I guarantee you all this 1 percent stuff is nonsense because I can always sense a tangible difference immediately using 92 over 87. But regardless 87 is just garbage gas, its not as good for your engine regardless. I mean I can tell every single time how it runs rougher, feels worse. It feels like its adding stress. I wouldnt use 87 ever for that reason alone.

i remember seeing dyno results from somewhere(same dyno), and it was a 10whp difference. it was also 2 different cars though, so there are more variables than just gas.
