I got really lucky with Utah highway patrol a few months ago. I got onto the highway right in front of him probably tickling 95 ish. He amazingly let me go without even a written warning. Scared me though because having a CDL usually means you get zero leeway. I don't actually use it anymore but I still keep it just in case.

My most recent ticket was 55 in a 45. When I saw a younger girl (trainee?) get out of the passenger side, I knew I was about to be made an example of and there was no talking my way out of that ticket!

My “best” ticket was in 2001 when I got pulled over for 111 mph in a 60 on loop 820 in North Richland Hills, TX at 4am in the morning. I was originally doing 120 when I first saw the cop and nailed my brakes. This was in my 1992 Ford Taurus SHO with the 5-speed manual. I took the next exit, pulled over, turned the car off, placed the keys on the dash and waited for them to catch up.

The officer asked, “I clocked you doing 111 in a 60… any reason you were going that fast?”

I replied, “Sir, there’s no good reason anyone should be going that fast.”

He gave a chuckle, ran my license, gave me a stern talking to, and let me go with a ticket (I think that ended up being $250).

While I wasn‘t able to talk my way out of that, I firmly believe that being honest and respectful kept me out of jail and my car out of impound 👍

Yes tonight the unthinkable happened. As I was testing out a new tune 60-130. A KY Sheriff was behind me on the interstate. I never saw him and the highway was clear. I finished the pull and look up blue lights closing in. I pull over. Cop gets out. Back up shows up. He asked. Why do you think I pulled you over? I say. I was going a little to fast. Just testing the car out. He asked have you been drinking tonight. I answer I don't drink. He ask for my drivers license and heads to his GMC Suburban. Comes back in 3 minutes. Looks at me. I'm letting you go you told the truth. Slow down. Then started talking shop. What's done to the car....... This was my get out of jail free card!!!
Cop: "Do you know why I pulled you over?"
Me: "It demeans us both when you ask trick questions. Just tell me what you want."

FYI to anyone traveling in Virginia, reckless is treated just about the same as a DUI. My 96/55 ticket cost me ~$4500 after lawyer, ticket, insurance prem etc. Oh and the day in county plus 50 hours community service. Some places are less harsh but you’re screwed if you get popped in a small county.
Virgina is one of those "Death penalty for speeding" states, and self-righteously so.

I've been driving for 31 years and have been licensed to do so in 7 states, and half of my traffic problems have been in Virginia - in the past three years. Three times in three different counties, I've had to go to court over what should've been tickets. I'm out of pocket about $8,000. I hired a good lawyer - the same one all three times, in fact. Last time he joked about giving me miles for being a repeat customer.

My theory is that there're two parts to this obnoxious, hateful scam. One is a false but sincerely believed idea amongst the police & judges of this state that heavy-handed traffic enforcement makes for safer roads. The second is that rapacious local governments want our money, and their attitude toward the taxpayers is "Well, we can crack down on speeders or jack up your property taxes, but we're gonna get our money."

Like they weren't going to jack up the property taxes anyway.

Having lived here for six years, I've found that Virginia has very little to offer besides a very long commute and hilariously-expensive housing for such a podunk backwoods state. But the traffic enforcement is so obnoxious here that if it weren't for my job, I'd go some place that has its head screwed on straight about traffic enforcement.

Like Chicago.

I had a lot of fast fun in my last Mustang. Got pulled over for doing well over twice the limit and got a verbal warning because, as the officer put it, he didn't have to chase me. I was already on the side of the road almost stopped when he u-turned from the oncoming lane to "get" me.

I'm not saying it would stop all tickets, but a concealed carry permit (which I have had for 30 years) seems to change the conversation with constabulary down here in SE TX. I'm sure the same could be said for other places too.
I got out of a ticket once because I had my carry permit on me and told him.

Running in this State is an automatic felony. When you are caught you will get yer ass kicked by 4 or 5 pissed off cops, a night in jail, impounded car, meeting with the judge and possibly some real jail time.

Many years ago a Covington cop was chasing someone on foot and he fell off one of the bridges to Ohio and was killed. They made running a felony and they still don't play.
No, GETTING CAUGHT is the automatic felony.

I know… glad he didn’t see me doing 20 over before I came around the corner lol
Cop: "Do you know why I pulled you over?"
Me: "I don't know. How long have you been following me?"

I don't know, it seems the officers were out plenty in Cook county and Henrico. Maybe DuPage and west they were more lax.

NoVA you just have to watch your step in FFX, Loudoun, and Prince William. That said I cruise at 75-82 on I-66 from Manassas into 495 (posted 55) at 11pm-5am more often than not and never been picked up. Granted I'm one of the slower drivers at those speeds and times of day.

Stafford County around I-95 the enforcement is far more concentrated than inland even 10 miles.

Ahh, I see you're in Hampton Roads. Well, you beach/ocean-adjacent people be crazy and unruly, like sailors off a long time at sea. Your kind "deserve the lash". :) :) :) /JK
West of US-15 and the nature of the state changes considerably.

Went from land of 10,000 lakes to land of 10,000 ways we won't let you have fun.

Too damn cold up there and too many mosquitos in the summer.
But fun's NOT SAFE!

When I lived in Chicago I never got a ticket. Because cops are too busy chasing murderers and gangbangers to care about 22 over.

The cop or the suspect fell off the bridge?
