I am a fan of the new Mustang buuuuut:
  1. Packages are a horrible concept. In previous gens one could order a sleeper with the best radio. You can't get the pro audio without making the interior into a cigar lounge. The basic system not only looks like an old space shuttle but sounds like something from the 1980s.
  2. Spoiler Delete is at Ford employees' discretion. I've talked to several who special ordered their GTs minus the rear spoiler and they all received their cars with spoilers attached. Apparently, someone on the line feels it's a requirement.
  3. Not the scary monster under your bed. Right off the lot the GTs could get folks to move with its roar, not its horn. Now you rev that engine and its competing with the clicking from other drivers' texting.
  4. The singularity? I swear the new gen cars are sentient... if you have the key fob. Can't sneak in or out 'cause the lights are still on. It's like attaching strobe lights to a stealth fighter. (Or a bell on a cat.) Not to mention all the buttons. Sync gets turned on when I go for the horn. "I'm sorry. I don't understand 'beep-beep'." Seems like more buttons than I actually need.
  5. The Abyss AKA the clutch pedal. Does every Mustang since the 80s need a longer left leg to operate? Since the Fox-bodies I have had a contorted right leg and an over extended clutch leg. Maybe the Ford engineers still wear disco shoes. It's harshing my right-turn drifts. Srsly?
Anyways, the previous cars were kinda raw. I thought that's why people loved it but maybe I am wrong. Perhaps buyers wanted something way more refined. I wonder if there's a market for more stripped-down versions. A "5.0 LX" model of sorts. It would definitely cost considerably less.

Doth I protest too much? (The single worst question you can ask on the Interweb.)

I think everyone's in agreement with the packages. Ford pigeon holed a lot of ppl into shelling out $$ for one option they want as long as you buy 3 other options you don't want along with it.

Like buying a CD with 13 tracks just for the hit single. Remember those days? Anyway, I do believe that's where Ford has saved some costs and been able to keep the base prices where they are.

I agree with packages. There should be categories. Cloth/Leather option, Sound System Option, Safety Option (that includes reverse sensors and blind spot/cross traffic, Entertainment and so on.

I don't agree with the sound. I think it still sounds great and more refined. I hope you are talking about the EB because the GT still has a nice roar. The Mustang is now in the category of quality of Audi/BMW and they toned down the note a tad to fit with the European feel.

As for the spoiler delete I will make a small wager that the people who got spoilers even though they deleted it had one of two things happen. The one less likely is the dealer screwed up and didn't enter the option. The one more likely is they ordered the 50th package that negated the spoiler delete.

I love the more refined mustang, thats why I bought one. Never would of considered one before now. What ford has done is widened its customer base IMO.
Packages make sense to me. There are still options for each budget.

Only part of ur rant I agree with is the packages and not being able to customize them. I would of liked to keep my spoiler and get another 19inch rim with my pp package but it wasnt allowed. Besides that no one buys a mustang to keep stock exhaust and the reason this 1 is little bit more tone down is because of international market noise restrictions but in US 99% of ppl I know with a mustang change exhaust anyways. Also unfortunately you have to let go of the past when cars had actually keys and they also had carburetors that would choke and get flooded. Learn to appreciate that when things change its not a bad thing you just have to accept. Or would you rather we go back to driving the raw horsepower cars of the 60s and 70s that got 6 miles per gallon. By the way I love my cars key fob it never leavea my pocket so no risk of scratching any paint by the handle

Too funny! I think this every time I get in the car. And what is more annoying, I hit the start button to get the memory seat in position but if the clutch isn't in far enough when I go to start the engine, the seat reverts all the way back!

#2 seems a little vague. Have you actually looked at these people's window sticker to see if the spoiler delete option is on there? I have a hard time believing the build doesn't match the window sticker to any large degree as in number of people affected. All in all I would say your post needs less pseudo intellectual verbal flourishes and more straight facts and logic.

Another big-time package hater here.

I'd love to order a base GT with leather and the PP, nothing else. I don't care about all the other frivolous garbage that comes with the Premium, I'm fine with the base radio and such.

This is one thing I love about ordering Jeep Wranglers, most every option can be ordered individually.

I agree with the packages concept not being very buyer friendly for some (myself included), I wanted the memory seats but not any of the other options that go with that package.
As far as people liking the "raw" Mustang, that was probably true when we didn't have so many really good alternatives to the Mustang. Now it would be tough to sell many "raw" Mustangs with IRS Camaros and Challengers, not to mention Hyundais and BMW's.I like the raw ones also, but I have to say I am really liking my new refined Mustang.

I also have to agree regarding the packages. And also why they chose to limit the V6 where you can't even get the upgraded radio. If the V6 had a premium selection, I'd probably opt for that engine. At present, it'll be the EcoBoost premium for me.

Now as far as making or breaking up some of these packages to individual selections, there's many items in the PP that I would like to have, but not all of them. I "love", the two additional center gauges, the heavy duty radiator and to a point, the larger brakes. I say to a point because it seems that if you have the larger brakes, you're stuck with 19" wheels, which I hate! I'd want, or would like to have 17" wheels as I like the retro look and also the softer ride the taller sidewall of the tire provides. I'm not into racing or trying to zip around hairpin turns at high speeds. One of my top priorities is a comfortable ride. So the other stiffer suspension additions of the PP are also in question for my tastes.

And on a side note, not to digress too far from the OP's subject matter, at one time in the far past, (lol) I had a 65 Mustang. She was my daily driver and I really liked that car. Over the years, I never owned another one as I really didn't care tor the new styles of the car,,,, until now! I really do think Ford hit this one right out of the park!! She's,,,, beautiful!!!!!

I have some opinions.
1. Yeah packages are for the seller to make more money. I understand why Ford does it, but not necessarily why people buy them. I don't like it but I don't blame Ford for trying to make money. I want them to make money so they stay in business.
2. No comment.
3. I daily drive and don't mind the quiet exhaust. It's nice my ears aren't ringing when I get to work. I would like to see optional exhaust. I'd prefer it didn't cost $900 like the Camaro's optional exhaust.
4. I somewhat agree, but I think I will adjust to the buttons on my base GT steering wheel. The dash is farther away now, so I appreciate having more controls on the wheel.
5. I'm 6'4", not a problem for me. I like that the Mustang interiors are generally designed for larger people. The latest seats are too narrow, though.

The raw thing - I 100% agree with you, but evidently we are in the minority (looking at sales of the new model). I'm still irritated about all the government safety and fuel economy mandates. IMO air bags should be an extra cost option, for instance. Could you imagine how much less expensive cars could be if the government would keep their fingers out?
