This isn't meant to be another typewriter tick bitch session. Rather I'm just curious to get the consensus from people who use Ceratec and go to the dealer for regular service. Do you get push back from the dealer? Are they fine with it? Any warranty threats or issues ever come up in relation to Ceratec?

I ask because my '23 M1 has some tick, and I want to start using Ceratec. But I haven't had my first oil change yet. Im wondering if I should wait until my first dealer service to add it, or should I just skip the dealer all together...

I would suggest holding off for now. Be conservative. Get the "tick" on record and see if they can check it out.

If they find Ceratec in your oil this early, it cause issues with future warranty claims. The problem may be minor or serious.

Down the road, if they don't provide answers, then use it.

Because of "ticks", I keep my Mustang out of the woods.

Are dealers specifically looking for it?

Do you tell them you use it?
It's obvious by looking at it when you change the oil.

The dealership won't likely care if you are adding Ceratec, because the children changing your oil don't GAF about your car. They dump it, change the filter, and fill it back up while being far more concerned with TikTok's and Bookface and Instagrammings from their friends.

If you want quality control, control it yourself. If you can't/won't change your own oil, make good friends with a local repair shop that you can trust. The dealership should be the last option IMO. My experience has been that dealerships have the least competent "technicians" when compaired to experienced tech's at independent shops.

Well they won't know for sure unless they send it to get tested.

But are dealers following some email from corporate that talks about it and to refuse warranty or service or what?

No. You can see the color change in the oil when you drain it. No lab needed

Not that I'm aware of. That's partially why I'm asking though. I know tons of folks here use Ceratec. Just curious what experiences they've had with the dealer over it.

To a very specific color that could only be from adding ceratec?
Yes lol. It makes the oil look like a chocolate milkshake.

If you mention to evaluate the "tick" the dealer may pull the dipstick, cock their head to the side and question if you have contaminated oil (as in coolant, condensation, etc). So to get the tick recorded on your vehicle warranty record, I'm with the folks who say, wait until after warranty before adding potions.

Having a bit thicker film between moving parts may help address your concern. So being in Arizona you may want to ensure you're using an approved 5W-30 oil, if not already. Ford will not complain if you use the thicker oil in the warmer climate. As you rightly are concerned, they'll be less likely to throw up smoke screens than if you have a milky substance in the crankcase, no matter how good it may be for an engine.

I believe all '21 and up coyotes switched to 5w-30 oil. That's what my book calls for.
