Some of the stuff I’m seeing online is that there will be an application process, much like the GT. That’s not surprising given it will be a low volume car. Haven’t seen anything as to whether that will also include a ban on selling it for a certain time period (the GT was 2 years). Definitely out of my price range but will be interested to see how many end up in the Chicago area. There’s a few GT3RS’s around as well as a handful of GT’s (at least that I know of).

Cantilever rear suspension? Further disproves the mid engine crowd lol.

100% correct. May very well be an active suspension too!

It is clickbait. A mid engine mustang isn’t happening. They’re gonna announce a GTD mustang which is gonna be front engine
Not sure why you quoted me as I have never intimated mid-engine and have repeatedly stated it will have a CF driveshaft. You are right about that article being pure clickbait.

K I know I said that 5 minutes ago but just confirmed with a source that it actually is mid engine. Crazy. I’ll gladly eat crow.

It would be nice if they had a mid engine “Mustang” that had a similar platform as the new corvette mid engine cars. How cool would it be if they put the GT350 motor in the rear of the car with mustang looks in the front and rear?
I'd say call such a Ford "Thunderbird". Get back to the original early 50's competition, updated to today's mid engine level of sophistication. Ford has already re upped the trademark for the name after all...

Someone I know who has seen it in person said it’s gonna be $300k and around 1000 will be built.

Any being built for the European market or will all 1,000 be built to North American spec?

I’m assuming just NA because GTD is an IMSA class that races NA. The GT3 is the international spec.

If your source is claiming mid-engine I believe they are mistaken. I posted this at 7G but it is relevant here...

"In photos taken in Vegas at the reveal you can clearly see a lengthy CF driveshaft, a fabricated tubular rear cradle that houses the transaxle and allows an anchor point for the cantilevered dampers to reside above it. Definitely going to be interesting to see the interface where the driveshaft mates to the rear of the engine up front.

Also wondering if there will be a bulkhead near where the rear seatback would normally reside (I can't imagine a rear seat in this car). Based on a simple observational scaling measure, I think the rear dampers will be visible just beneath the rear window glass, directly above the rear axle centerline. Unless Ford wanted the dampers covered but they are so damn beautiful I don't see how anyone would want to do that.:)"

Ya I thought the pic they posted looked like cantilever coilovers, but I talked to someone that went to the event last night and he said it is indeed mid engine. He saw it up close.

I suspected the target is 1000 pcs because of EU's 2030 regulation on banning ICE cars sales. Exception for cars produced in numbers up to 1000. Is this going to be the survival of the mustang brand or a possible back door on the EU market, we'll see. But the whole idea of a mid-engined competitor of the Porches in any GT series in Europe is intriguing. Porche is in the 2-300k ball park, so it sounds plausible to land in that range. Also for some gt series requirement is 1000 street legal cars for certification. It kind of seems ford want to really jump into all series all at once... BTW, there was a ford performance short a couple of days ago, showing a Ford GT mark IV. I guess we just have to wait for the end of day today...

One more thing I should have added was (whatever this thing is): it needs a sequential manual gearbox.

I've always thought "forward-thinking" Ford would be the first oem to Market with such a gearbox.
