Ordered New Gen 2 Engine

Hello all,

I have been bumming around here lurking on the forums gathering info on all things Mustang the last few weeks. The info has been great I just wanted to share with you guys that might be looking for a GEN 2 to build without having to source parts from all over the place. I had heard here and in other places that Ford had discontinued the Gen 2 Coyote. So I had been looking at Reman engines piecing it all together etc. Then I thought, well let me just call my dealer, who's always been a pretty good one to deal with, and see what they said. So I took a ride over there and we dropped in my VIN and Viola! 62 engines matched for my VIN sitting in Memphis. Although I could have pieced a Gen 2 together from parts sourced all through the South East I pulled the trigger and ordered one from Ford. It supposedly should be here next week. Either way, I'll let you guys know here if it does come and is correct so that anyone looking will have the part # and info to order if they choose.

Because this engine is going to spend its entire life above 5000 rpm, and if you look closely there's a core charge of $1500 on there so it's $7000 plus tax for a new engine from Ford. With a 36-month unlimited mileage warranty I suggest you go try to find anything less than 6000k out there that has any sort of recourse if you have an issue. So no FB marketplace or anything like that. Even then I'd likely have to spend a day or more driving to get it or pay someone to ship it. I don't know why I'm explaining myself to you lol. I was just simply letting people know it may be an option.

That's a good deal, considering it's a genuine all brand new Ford unit with a limited warranty - and you'll get $1500 back from the core.

Looks like that engine went through a divorce, it just wasn't too fond of its pistons...

Yup, tends to happen when the machine shop forgets to tighten down the rod cap bolts. I bought the car blown up so I knew what I was in for, sucks for the last guy though.

I'm guessing that if your application/driving situation means that your new engine "is going to spend its entire life above 5000 rpm", then the warranty won't be honored if anything goes wrong.

Maybe, maybe not on the warranty side. But if I bought it from a used engine on eBay or FB and it just didn't run, well I'm out all my money for sure. So that's what I was trying to avoid. Plus, there's the 0-mile thing to consider. As far as the pricing goes, I had looked for part numbers on a service engine and hadn't been able to find anything online. I had put my VIN in on that same site and it came up with FR3Z-6006-G. I could never get any superseded part numbers. So I guess you're welcome for the part number lol. Checked shipping to me and it's knocking on 700 bucks so I could save a few dollars, but hey live and learn I guess. No shipping charge to get it to the dealer and then they'll load it in the back of the ole F-150.

I think your buying the new crate motor is 100% the way to go. Piecing together a Frankencoyote sounds dubious at best.

Curious to know *how* anyone would know exactly the vehicle was used when the engine broke if you were to take it in for a warranty claim.

Is Ford able to locate your vehicle based on GPS to determine you were at a track and thus "racing"? How would they prove you were actually racing and not just spectating? Are they able to download a log of the PCM parameters and see that you were at 7000rpm and 100% throttle at the time of failure? Is there even a clause in any warranty that you can't hit certain RPM or throttle limits else the warranty is void?

Not trying to start anything, just genuinely curious as I am in a similar boat as the OP and hope that if/when something bad happens that Ford would most likely cover it.

You read this forum, right?

People taking their car to the dealership with road-course stickers and numbers all over them, expecting warranty replacement of whatever. Plus the tire rubber from tracking all in the wheel wells.

I'm sure there are other ways they can tell, that's just the one example that I remember from recent threads.

I mean, that's pretty dumb on their part and all of those are easy things to take care of prior to bringing it in for warranty work.

I'm talking about things that we have no control over and are impossible to remove/hide from a dealer.

They'll look at the modifications done to the car and take that all into account. I have no doubt that they will try to get out of any warranty repair that they can. Unless they have proof that you raced the car or neglected it. Warped block or heads from running it too hot. Blued or over-worn bearings from low oil pressure. You're likely going to get pushback in the event of a claim, I think that's the nature of the beast, but if you CYA clean the car up, and make them prove it was racing-related damage and not you accelerating hard onto the interstate. You're likely to come away with at least some help from Ford. Like I said you just have to be prepared for the inevitable. They are going to try and deny it.

I had a S2000 engine bite the dust at an Auto-x event and even with my suspension mods and intake/exhaust Honda still covered the parts and half of the labor. I did have to call Honda corporate and deal with it and so I was out of a car for a while, but the money I saved was worth it.
