Hi guys. My stang started making a very loud ticking noise yesterday. It gets louder and more aggressive as I accelerate. I need help diagnosing what it is. I have an appointment with the Ford Dealership on Monday for their opinion too.

Update 11/10: Got a call back from the ford dealership. Turns out that they are all morons. I wouldn’t have taken it there if it weren’t for my warranty. Guy on the phone told me that the noise was a natural 5.0 Liter noise. I think they never even turned the car over and they only hooked it up to a diag and the diag told them everything was fine. Actually amazes me how stupid people are.

I told them HELL no. They also tried to say that the engine capacity is 8.8 quarts and that I probably put too much oil in it, but it literally says in my manual and everyone elses on planet earth that it is a 10 quart. So now they are gonna drain the oil and reevaulate the engine. So now I have to pay for an oil change, a diag fee, and whatever the hell else is wrong. Hopefully my warranty will pull through.

On a side note, never go to a damn ford dealership, or a dealership in general. They’re a bunch of retards.

Update 11/11: Well, the dealership is still insistent that it is a known noise that these 5.0 Liters make. I still don’t agree with that assessment, but if it blows up, I get a new engine cause it’s under warranty. Plus they aren’t going to charge me a diag fee or an oil change fee. If it really is just a known noise, it must be becaue I switched oil brand and viscosity, but honestly who knows. I might try and throw some ceratec in there and see if anything happens.

Update 11/12: I got the car back yesterday and you’ll never guess what happened. The noise is magically gone. Turns out that the dealership didn’t even touch it at all. They didn’t drain or touch the oil. I am thoroughly confused as to what was going on, but if the noise is gone then so are a few of my worries lol. I’m still just flabbergasted how a noise like that just up and disappears.

That's not the Coyote tick, it's an engine problem.
I know it isn’t “the” coyote tick. I have that and know what it sounds like. Just trying to figure out what this is.

I just changed the oil last week.
And did this noise start right after the oil change?

Did you check the level?

Could be an exhaust leak as well. Hard to tell where the noise is coming from in your video

No, it definitely didn’t start right after the oil change, it took like 4 days. I check the level and it seemed normal to me. The noise sounds like its coming from top of the engine.

Probably find something when they take the valve covers or timing cover off.

Check your oil type. The wrong oil can cause problems.

Sounds like you lost a lifter. Could be simple. Might not be. If the roller fell apart it may have taken out the cam. If it did, the metal goes everywhere. Into the pump onto the cylinder walls. Dont mean to scare you. It a real possibility. Hopefully its a simple fix.

I’m also thinking a bad lifter arm. Funny story though. Ford dealership got back to me today and said “There was nothing wrong with the car. The 5.0 liters naturally make that noise.” My first question was “Did you even crank it?” and my next question was “Is your entire team retarded?”. I’m actually so pissed off, never go to a dealership. I know what the natural BBQ tick sounds like and that is NOT IT BRO.

I think that's their training. That's the standard line

Yeah I figure, but I literally told them that there was no light on the dash or anything. I told them that they would have to get internal. But no. Can’t listen to me cause I don’t know anything. Average dealership experience I suppose.

After my debacle with aftermarket cats, I had to re install the oem manifold/cat. I didnt feel like doing it so I asked the dealer. They were trying to source an engine bracket because they were going to pull the k member. I had to tell them how I did it on my back in the garage. They did it in 45 minutes. I still had to pay.

Also, the trans shifted like crap in sport mode. They kept saying it might be mechanical or a valve body problem. I said then why doesn't it do it in normal mode? No answer. I fixed it with PCMtech. I tried to tell them how I fixed it. Blank stares. If its not procedure from up high they are lost.
