I guess what I don't understand is this. More heat less power, Insulation keeps heat in, and heat rises.
Or am I missing an important piece?
Thanks for reply, Personally i wouldnt care about the insulation if it wasnt messing up my highly polished upper strut tower brace. lol

What we get on our euros (which I am assuming is the same ?) is kind of like a fibrous material bound in a flexible way (almost like glass fibre, but without the traditional hard / glossy resin) and its backed with a compressed sound deadening material.

I don't know to what extent, but it is partially resistant to naked flame (I tried it a little to see if I could repair / mask some damage)

This is my issue, hood insulation is rubbing on brace and water combined w heat is staining the aluminum causing a pitting of sorts.. I wanted to purchase brace powdercoated black from Schropp via germany, but the 2 month wait wasn't worth it for me, so I took polished aluminum. I don't feel like cleaning and repolishing brace weekly, firget that. The hood insulation will go...

Noise reduction, a bit of prettying up—same as the engine cover on the '18+. Anyone who comments about it being fire retardant—while that'd be nice, is also very false. (Seriously—it feels lije it's made of compressed cardboard and cheesecloth. How'd that rumor start???)
I actually think the pre ‘18 looks better

I took mine off....put it back on hoping to quiet down the tick tick tick tick of the Coyote....didn't do much, I might remove it again.

I would remove mine but... it is needed to seal the open air intake to the hood. The intake box gasket leaves a defined imprint in the hood insulator and removing would leave a huge gap for hot air to get in. The Mach1 and Bullitt models are the same. The hood liner is different on those two models though. It channels water from the hood vent out in front of the intake box. Changing to the GT500 intake box would solve this issue. Out comes the credit card again.

How much sound dampening benefit are we really talking about? Can you hear or measure a difference?

Thanks for the reply! I didn't know that about Bullitt and mach 1 models and there hood insulators. Do you mean those models hood insulator channels the water from hood vent or in general? or those models?
I do know without a doubt, the black plastic attachment to the hood vent whether it be stock or roush or aftermarket utilizes those black plastic under vent attachment to direct water from vent to underhood area where water can be dispersed without wetting engine. My insulator does catch excess water and contains it, sparing the engine and compartment.

P.S. The GT500 and Roush stage 3 cars and GT's w phase 2 blower cars have same enclosed airbox set up's, water is not an issue with them.

Mach1 and Bullitt hood vents are the same as the GT with the black plastic underneath, but the hood insulator is different. If you put a GT hood insulator on a Mach1 (or Bullitt), the drivers side hood vent will dump water onto the open air filter. With the different hood insulator, water flows through the hood vent and it dumps onto the hood insulator and runs to exit out in the slot at the very front. This picture of a Mach1 hood insulator will explain what I'm talking about:

WOW!!! very interesting, thanks for sharing... Just learned something today!! =) Plus, there is no hood vent opening in the insulator on drivers side, only passenger.

Considering there have been threads on here with mouldy hood blankets, I don’t think purposefully using it to channel water was the smartest of ideas … :frown:
