Yesterday I went to get something out of the glove box. The car was locked and I opened the passenger door to got what I needed so I started the car using the key fobs remote start and put the key fob on the console with my phone which has the Ford app…I left the engine running because wanted to run the AC for a few minutes before leaving. I closed the door and went in the house for minute and when I returned I was locked out. What did I do wrong?

I'm a little confused, because you wrote that you opened the passenger door, and then started the car. I don't know how that's possible, since you must press down on the brake pedal to do so.

Your mistakes were:
- leaving the car running unattended
- leaving the fob in the car
- locking the door, somehow (that one has me stumped)

I have remote start and used the key fob to start the car…passenger door was open and I was standing in the driveway. I put the key fob on the console, closed the door and went in the house for a minute…I’m stumped to as to why the doors locked too with the key in it…I certainly won’t do that again.

Ah ha! It was the remote start that did it to you, I'll bet. I don't have the option (3 pedals) but in my limited experience with other cars, that feature likes to keep the doors locked to help prevent someone from driving off.

This is a new one. I was unaware that you could remote smart without first locking the doors. That's part of the procedure. also our doors do not auto lock so I do not know how that could happen. Maybe retrace your steps as something doesn''t sound right.

If I recall correctly, you have to press the lock button to remote-start the car. It seems like even with the door open you can lock it. Put the keys inside, shut the door and voila, you're locked out.

I was being lazy and didn’t want to walk around to the drivers side and get in the car to start it…so while I was standing there with the passenger door opened I used the fob to remote start it and threw the key on console and closed the door with the AC on and went in the house for a minute…won’t do that again!

So you do learn something new everyday. I opened my passenger door and went to remote start it. The car doors will lock with an open door and then the car will start. I didn't know this. I'll take your word for the rest of the it. :like::giggle:

It would have been more fun if you came back to an empty parking spot, and you don't even have the phone to call police... and if you have any sort of smart unlock on the phone enabled, you could easily have identity stolen along with the car. Please tell uss you didn't toss a kid on the back seat as well 😆

Just kidding, it's good everything got resolved.
