New Recall for ECU Safety Issues

I spoke with my tuner (PBD) they said to load stock file , get software update and then make a new stock file with all the updates and get a driving log.

Thanks but not clear on the last part. Do they want to review the log before you re-flash the PBD tune after the recall update, or, are you ok to re-flash the PBD tune after the recall update regardless of the log? Please clarify and thanks

I just got off the phone with a Ford Performance tech.
He said in order to apply the PCM recall fix it must be done as follows:

1. Inform the service advisor of the FP tune when you take the car in and bring your Procal4 device and ODB cable. You will need to work with the tech to ensure he knows this and that the vehicle CANNOT be started until the FP tune is re-flashed.
2. Drive the vehicle to the service bay and shut off the engine.
3. Re-flash the PCM back to stock using the Procal4 device. DO NOT start engine.
4. Dealer may then apply the PCM recall fix. DO NOT start engine.
5. Re-flash the FP tune back to the PCM.
6. Start engine and procedure should be complete.

I tell you, I don't think it's worth the hassle of going through all that and the potential for something to go wrong. Now, if you are experiencing issues like the recall is describing and you can't live with it, I would say go for it.

Seems like a hassle. Would be so much easier if Ford Performance just updated their tune for us people that have it. I certainly don’t trust my dealer to do all those steps.

Its not a lot of steps really, just reinstall stock tune, do the recall and then reinstall Ford Performance tune.

The file for the tune is updated from what it was a year ago. I posted above asking others to check and see what their file name is.

Going off of the post about what PBD said, they want to make a new tune using the new software update as a base. FRPP would already have access to that so all we may have to do is install the new file. Which makes sense, honestly. I'd assume flashing any tune, over the software update would just overwrite any fix, anyways. The extra bit about going to a dealership may very well just be Ford Racing covering their a**.

Same here. As far as I can tell, none of my presets--infotainment, MyMode, etc.--were affected.

I can't tell yet whether the fix is effective; I had the issue when my car sat in the sun and got heat-soaked. The recall didn't mention heat as at least a contributing factor, but now my car is garaged so I won't know unless it happens again.

Interestingly, I can't find any pending recalls for my VIN, although the period fits and the issue clearly exists. Maybe the recall is just in the US? Perhaps because the reversing camera is a mandated safety feature over there, while in Europe it isn't?

You're right, I checked again today, and now I can see the recall in Etis for my VIN.
Haven't got the letter yet, but it's probably just a matter of time.

None of that gets erased even when installing a new tune so that's not indicative of the change having an affect or not.
