I way 140, added approximately 40 lbs, don’t race it, so for me, inconsequential.
I feel the same way. I’m not chasing hundredths of a second at the drag strip so a couple dozen pounds of sound deadener doesn’t mean jack to me.

Sound deadening is overrated. Makes you feel good, but not much real deadening. I took out entire interior of my Jeep Wrangler to do sound deadening and I will not do that again, for Mustang to get rid of rattles.

BTW, why do I want to deaden GT's awesome exhaust sound?
Thanks for your poignant opinion that added nothing to the conversation.

Ok.....so, OP, are you going to share what the car is like since you did the trunk and rear seat/wheel arch areas?

Is it quieter? Smoother? Less NVH?

You should have recorded decibel levels before, and then afterwards. These cars are pretty darn quiet as they are.
Really, OP owes us nothing. He is sharing what he wants to out of the goodness of his heart. If you want to know more, YOU SHOULD record decibel levels and then perform whatever noise reduction activities you think are worthwhile, then post all your results here.

yo does anyone else have the middle of the dash/ac vent buzz or rattle?
That's a factory-installed option that I believe we all have. No additional cost.

Eh, big difference between a Wrangler and a Mustang (yes, I've owned both).

Also, I forgot to reply to earlier post - Front seats are easy to remove, just don't forget to unplug the motors and such first. And they're heavy.

For anyone concerned about the weight from adding sound insulation, I suggest that you have a nice BM before you go for a drive and see if you can tell the difference.

I've done this type of thing to past Corvettes and my M2 (which was horrendous). Most of the noise, IMHO, is from the tires, transmitted up through the body. A big part of the sound insulation is keeping the body from resonating the sound, more so than letting it transmit through. So you don't have to have perfect coverage, just hitting those large panels with it to reduce the vibrations will help. More so in a metal bodied car than a plastic rattle trap. Of course, covering any holes helps a lot too. Getting different tires (low rolling resistance all seasons compare to high performance summer tires for example) will make a huge difference too.

Oh, this thread went south rather quickly. LOL

Do you really not understand how adding sound deadening to a Wrangler, a vehicle with panel gaps you can fit fingers through, holes in the floor boards, no solid roof structure, and doors meant to be removed, would not do much...?

Wife and I test drove a 4 door Bronco soft top yesterday, second time I've ever ridden in that type of vehicle. We kind of looked at each other and laughed at how loud it was when we jumped on the freeway, decided to go with a '23 Explorer.

It would serve it's purpose just fine, and a great looking car, though.

All holes in the tub were tripled layered with sound insulation; hard top has heat shields with sound deadening front to rear hatch window. I had hard doors panels removed for insulation inside.

I would not have water leak into the cabin tub if I forded FAST thru a high water creek (very short distance, though).

Hey everyone, I stumbled on this forum and thread while looking into sound deadening installation for my new to me mustang, though I'm holding off until the weather isn't as harsh. I'm curious if anyone can share their experiences with the final outcomes of their projects. I hope I can complete this project as a one-and-done instead of dragging it out over many weekends. Although I've come across various installation guides, test results, and product selection advice online, I'm looking to learn about the methods and solutions others have used with good results. Thanks in advance for any help!

Edit: I ended up finding some really good reading material on the subject.

Here’s the steps I took:
Buy quality sound deadener that has three layers, sticky, aluminum, and butyl rubber. I used Soundskins and Sound Shield, they’re the same design.
Buy a good roller, it’ll help you set the glue on the backing.
Buy a good pair of shop scissors.
Order some clear transfer tape, you can get it in one foot wide by 30 foot rolls. This can be laid out on your doors and then trace the outline on it with a sharpie. Cut out the shape and transfer to the sound deadener and cut that out. You’ll have perfect fitment.
And lastly, remove all the panels before you begin. It’ll save you time if you tackle the entire trunk at once vs section by section. It’s not a quick process so plan for at least a full weekend of 10 hour days to do the entire interior.

Am i nuts or are these cars already insanely quiet for performance cars? I guess it depends what you're used to.
