I’ve been looking for ways to shave weight and the exhaust is a pretty good chunk. I’ve ran dumps at the track, but the sound and vibrations are absolutely horrendous. I looked at titanium and prices are ridiculous, so I reached out to Herfurth Aluminum Racing Mufflers, for a set of their mufflers and the material to build a full length aluminum exhaust.
I welded stainless steel vband flanges on my Texas speed headers, then started with aluminum vband flanges and worked my way back. I’m not a welder, I’m more of a hobby enthusiast, but I’ve been lucky enough to purchase some tools of the trade over the years.
All welding was done with a Miller Multimatic 220 with a CK torch and 3/32 4041 filler. From the headers to the xpipe is 11 gauge 3” 6061, X-pipe and the rest is 16 gauge. The tips were made by cutting two 3.5” 180 bends down.
Overall it came out great, shaved a bunch of weight and the less dense aluminum took away some of the annoying sharpness of the coyote and gave it a little bit deeper, although weird tone. I’m super happy with it and glad I made the change.
materials total from Herfurth ram me about $1000 with two of his 9” mufflers.
