Morning Fam.

Last week I completed install of an MGW x-spec. Installed a McLeod RST last month. 2015 Mustang GT. Stockish power level. McLeod stainless clutch line, steeda spring, BG fluid and additive.

It still grinds and won’t go into gear shifting at 6000 and above. Yikes. Looks like a synchro issue.

Options I see:

Option 1: There’s a guy selling an MT82D4 near me. Decent price. Buy this and source a 2018 clutch. McLeod doesn’t even make an RST clutch for the 2018 except with an aluminum flywheel. Might be too rough for a daily driver

EDIT: Has anyone done this? Is there anything required besides the clutch and shifter? Another forum member suggested a sensor/connector needs to be swapped out to work

Option 2: Ben Calimer. I plan to go boost at some point. Stage 1 is $2391 shipped. Stage 2 is $3191 shipped. Stage 3 $4291. All 3 have a prepaid return for your core and a $500 refund once received. Stage 3 is pretty pricey and might be too much for a daily driver. (People online complain about awful noise and vibration with it… and it’ll be many months before I could afford it)

Option 3: Buy the parts online and have a local shop install. $575 labor if I bring them my trans. $900 if I bring them the car.

Option 4: ???

Yes. Some worse than others.
So first through sixth + reverse. I'd guess its not the syncros. Release bearing is my guess.

Well, to be honest, I’ve never tried shifting into reverse at 6k.

I did replace the throwout bearing with a McLeod one when I did the clutch, and that didn’t affect the grinding.

To be more specific, the “grind” occurs when I am at it above 6k rpms. Off gas, on clutch, attempt to put car in next gear with clutch depressed and gas released. The grind is not due to depressing the gas too early, or letting off the clutch before car is in gear. Grind occurs with clutch to the floor and no throttle applied.

Haha good one. Well seems younreplaced what you could.. Bled the rb properly.. Could be Shift forks.. Shift forks pads.. Take it out and get it rebuilt with FORD OEM parts.

Yeah… bench bled and pumped pedal about 300x.

OEM is definitely an option. Wouldn’t be opposed to rebuilding with OEM plus bronze shift pads and a billet shift rail stop. We’ll see.

Rebuild yours, gearing is better versus the late trans.

Ive been using motul dctf with ford modifier in my 17 mt82 after about 1k miles in. Got the car new now sits at 29k and have a barton shifter trans mounted(about 2500 miles on this setupq)and never had any issues grinding or not going into gear even shifting at 7600 rpms. Also have the steeda braided line.

Mines bone stock (including clutch) with the exception of RP SYNCHROMESH. No issues shifting at 7500 rpm. 50k miles.

I had RP synchromesh before the BG… didn’t like it as much. Some difference in smoothness and cold shifting between the two. But neither seemed to fix the lockout issue.

I won't. Its all how you treated the clutch in the first 500 miles.

I don’t think it’s *all* in clutch break in… I had a grinding issue with my stock clutch, and had the same issue with the McLeod RST.
