I've been wanting to upgrade from my base 17' GT manual to a magneride GT350. Wifey has convinced me to keep our paid for beloved car however. Every time I test drive a car that I think I'll like better, I find that I don't.
So how I use my car: several times during the summer I take a route through our nicely paved, deserted backroads with five 90 degree turns and two long sweepers in the triple digits and the occasional drive through the mountains. I also do a 1600 mile round trip out to the Lake of the Ozarks once per summer where I use it as a true GT car. I also try to drive it daily even if it's a run to the grocery store.
This car is already the best handling car I've ever driven and I'm looking to upgrade to a suspension that will both handle the high speed corners better and give a more comfortable ride on the long road trips. It is a base 17' manual with Nitto 555 G2 285 35 19s up front and 305 30 19s rear. I've also added a strut tower brace and 19' GT350 rear spoiler, it is otherwise bone-stock. Is it possible to build a better suspension on this than a magneride car? I suspect I'd need to go with coil overs to achieve both goals, is that correct? I've been looking at the Ford performance track handling pack for a while now as it seems to be a great value but I doubt that will be a good choice for a long road trip. My current wheel/tire set up seems to really reward you on a good tarmac and punish you on a rough road. There is currently no tramlining.
What should I purchase on a $3000 budget? Your expert opinions will be greatly appreciated.
