I’m highly skeptical on this news being accurate. The publicity for Ford would be horrible and damaging. It would be akin to your builder saying “ Yah I know I have a contract to build your addition but I’m going to take the materials for your job and use them on a job I have across town. Oh and please go to my competition and get your addition. Finally please be sure to never buy from us again.”

And herein lies the problem. You can't build something when you don't have enough materials.

It was reported that whatever materials they have will be used at another plant. It’s not that they don’t have them. It is reported that instead of using the limited materials they do have to build cars that they already agreed to build. They will a lot them for future orders of a better profit margin vehicle.
As I said it would be a disaster for Ford.

And to add to this, for Ford to stay afloat they are going to use the chips for the vehicles that are going to keep them going and bringing money. Remember they are only making 5,000 Shelby's a year (Dont know if this would be only for shelbys or all mustangs), but I am sure they sell far more 150's. So yeah there is a good possibility, Chevy did it with the C8 this year, anything over 3000 they scrapped and you have to get back in line for a 2022.

I am sure the F150's getting priority are ordered vehicles also. Dealer stock would go behind the ordered mustangs.

Where did anyone say anything about future orders?
If Ford has chips to build 50000 vehicles and they have orders on the books for 100000 f150’s and 50000 mustangs already, with the trucks being more profitable, where do you think they are going to allocate the resources?

Oh, I remember this question. Widgets, they use the resources to make widgets! Or was it plowshares?

I’ve got a pocket full of chips that can be used. Someone help me smuggle them past security and I’ll drive to Ford and help. I’ll offer them at one CF wheel/wing a pop.

I hate to poop on a perfectly good parade but automotive stuff isn't built on the 7/5 nm nodes that everybody is talking about ramping production for with Samsung/TSMC in AZ and TX. Does your APIM cost as much as an Iphone? It is built on the equipment used to build yesterdays high tech for much cheaper. That's why there isn't going to be any ramp up in production and everybody has to get it when they get to making it. The production lines to make it already exist and it isn't profitable enough to go back and make more production capacity for chips that are already produced to defray the capital expenditure of yesterdays productions.
