He will end up with 119600 minus the $1500 auction fee.$118100. Minus the transportation and stay cost which let’s put in $1500 on that at least. So If he would’ve taken an offer privately of 117 he would have been ahead except for the fantastic experience .Congratulations on a fantastic car and a fantastic value as this is what it was worth.
The buyer just paid $143,000 and that's the only number that matters.

I thought it was for sale somewhere else and I wondered what that bidding went up to and that number matters to the seller of course

Agreed and just the fact that this 2020 GT350R was not in the wrapper and had ~1,650 miles on it just adds to the impressive selling price.

I would also suggest that the purchase price of $143,000 also indicates that many Mustang GT350/R enthusiasts still prefer a manual transmission over an automated DCT HP Mustang which bodes well for all present and future owners of the GT350/R for all 6 model years.

You'll be dead before it's worth twice what you paid for it. What's the point? Drive it!

Pretty weak perspective man.... maybe if your 85 years old. I'm 35 (my R is on it's way btw). And I'm sure there are plenty of owners out there in their 20's who have LOTS of time to keep their R and watch it turn into a classic.

The point is this car is already becoming a collector car and the evidence is right in your face. You can still drive it, enjoy it and it can still appreciate in value. It doesn't have to be one way.

You don't buy a depreciating asset in hopes that yours will appreciate. You'll be setting yourself up for heartbreak while i'll be out enjoying my car. If my car appreciates in value, so be it. If a classic car is what you were after, you would have been much smarter to have bought a 65 Shelby, which in 30 years, will be 4 times the value of your R.

Btw, people in their 20's who own this car are a negative against the value of your car - in the near future.

But, whatever makes you feel better about your purchase.

nteresting that the 2020 GT500 just before it, new in wrapper, 10 miles, only went for $115K.
i'm surprised it went for that much. When you can buy them for MSRP (20 grand less than hammer) and still actively produced... It should have sold at a discount to MSRP.

Hmm maybe we'll just label Buyer's premium as 'ADM' and feel good about ourselves? Just because you can find one or two suckers to pay overmarket, doesn't mean you're going to find one for your car when it's time to sell.

Why is everyone so worried about re-sale value? I am in my 20's and never thought about selling this car when I bought it. Last FPC-Manual car made and everyone is worried about re-sale value? Maybe you should have invested in stocks if you wanted an investment and not a car. This is a car made to be driven. I'd love a GT3 Porsche or 458 Ferarri in the future just because I put those cars up there with the GT350 for best naturally aspirated cars ever made besides the insanely expensive V12s out there, but I still doubt I would ever sell my 19 350.

Is the best time to invest when the market is down but on the verge of going way up or after it's already exploded? Depreciation in regular R's have been minimal since going out of production, as others have already went up.

For those not paying attention in the last few months;
2020 R Vin 001 (2nd most popular spec, used) -- $142k at BJ
2020 R (same spec as above so not rare, new) - bidded to 90k at mecum but did not sell. Mecum had the car valued over 100k
2018 R (Black/black, most popular spec, new) -- $80,300 at mecum
2018 R (White/blue, new) -- $77,000 at mecum
2018 R (Grey/black, popular spec, new) -- $81,400 at mecum

There were 5 more R's sold recently at auction all going over msrp.

On your 65 Shelby point. Yes that is a great investment, but show me where you can buy one at the 78k price point? Can you get a full factory warranty on a 65? Not all of us can afford to buy a 65 GT350.

Another thing. People who care about the collector side of this car are not going in thinking one day this car is going to make us rich. It's not that kind of investment. But what we are going in thinking, I got a special ass car that that I'm going to drive and enjoy, and one day it has a good chance to be worth two or three times what I paid for it. That's a fucking win.

I don't understand your mid 20's negative point at all.

Wow... the mindsets on here...

The data suggests that R values are going up and someone still has to put in a disclaimer about buying cars as investments. Sheesh. Read the data. Be done with it. Don’t fight the science. Hasn’t Covid taught you anything? Lol
