My experience with belt shredding I found to be that I was did not install the bell properly and was one rib off on the water pump pulley, causing misalignment and the destruction of one rib on the belt.

Mine is close enough that I can slide it back into place, but once I rip it it comes off 1 rung.

It's all good tho I'm getting a fuel system and injectors very soon so I'll take it all off and fix it.

I had this exact same issue . The problem with mine was the kit was missing one idler spacer . The shop that installed mine made a spacer to get me my car back . The problem ,the shop made spacer held the idler out to far and caused the belt to come off the back of the idler then walk one cog off on the tensioner pulley . The exact same problem you describe . The cure , called Edelbrock received the missing spacer replaced the shop created one and all has been good .

In your picture the silver colored idler right before the tensioner . Remove the belt then take out the Allen head bolt that holds that idler on and see what spacer/ boss is behind it should look like this one.
