So here's a question.

If (big IF) the Mustang Mach E sells well and makes Ford tons of money that they can then pour into making more enthusiast-type vehicles for us types, does it make their decision more palatable? It worked for Porsche when they started selling SUV's and all the Porsche fanatics went crazy. Don't hear anything from them any longer 'cause their getting their various 911 versions, Cayman versions, etc. that they likely wouldn't without the SUV profits.

At first, I was a bit upset but now it doesn't bother me as much. Ford surely focus-grouped this name to death and the AVERAGE person out there (the kind that are not enthusiasts but buy 95%+ of the vehicles) would have given a higher chance-of-buying rating to something with the "Mustang" name in it. No way Ford would've upset the 5% otherwise.

My sister may likely end up with one and I say "if it helps Ford long term to keep providing us with performance vehicles, go for it".

That's the spirit. What's good for Ford is good for us. I'd certainly rather have this then what Chevy most likely will do to the Camaro.

Chevy will likely kill the camaro , or were going to anyways. I’d rather ford kill the mustang than slap its name onto this 4 door econo box pos. What a shame that there is actually people that are ok with this. This is the END of the mustang as we know it.

Funny that’s what everyone said when the Mustang II came out. You don’t kill an icon that easily.

Being OK with it is irrelevant. I'm not fond of it either, but here's the facts...

You don't own controlling shares in the company, or the name.

It’s amazing how offended everyone is getting over this vehicle.
Why would you be at all surprised given that people were up in arms 30 years ago over the plan to turn the Mustang into a FWD sports coupe?

Ford is a for profit company. Their job isn’t to listen to what a fraction of their customer base (ie; us the enthusiasts) tell them to build or not build, or what they’ll buy or not buy.

In order for them to survive they need to follow market trends and future speculation of what’s new and hot. I’m happy the Mustang is the one car platform they kept for the USDM. I would be pissed if they killed it off, but not pissed they’re bringing in a hot market vehicle to target the market currently occupied by Tesla.
What you're ignoring is the fact that Ford sucks at all of the things that you're talking about and it's an obvious repeating cycle that they've clearly started all over again. They get fixated on a trend and destroy their product lineup and throw away brand equity in pursuit of it. And then one day they wake up and discover that sales have tanked because nobody cares about them because they have no brand identity and no competitive products outside the shiny thing that they've been pursuing like a dog after a squirrel.

Ford didn’t stop building the Mustang for this car.
And if sales declines accelerate because they've damaged the brand that's assured for how long?

See post #155. Agreed that ICE is going to be around for awhile. The chart is based on what we have/know now. But as the technology improves both for the vehicles and the power generation this most likely will change. The one thing that will not change is that eventually the supply of fossil fuels will dwindle. Have no idea when but it will happen.

By the way, used to live in Monroe Township. Jackson is a great town.
I hope you are right, IC cars tank in value, and people buy electrics like crazy.
Will have my pick of some really cool high end IC cars AND cheap fuel for a long time.

No I don’t, doesn’t mean they shouldn’t listen to the customers who have supported THEM. This has turned me away from the Blue Oval, and I was as die hard as it gets. Ford, get your head out of your a** and at least take away the mustang name in this pos. Going to be odd walking into a ford dealer in 2021 and looking at a 760 hp GT500 and then looking across the showroom to see this abomination, and they are both a Mustang. I’m disgusted beyond belief with FoMoCo.

I'm buying a new Mustang in a couple of months. This news, annoying though it is, doesn't have any impact on my buying decision.

Mach is a Mustang throwback. Designating an Explorer or Edge as an ST model is a marketing ploy to a niche group who want a performance oriented vehicle that still checks a lot of boxes. All ST’s have a big grill and edgy styling, but it doesn’t mean the Fiesta/Focus ST never existed.

Using the Mustang or Mach moniker on a crossover is doing the same thing. Taking styling cues from the Mustang? Cool, Ford knows what works. Imagine being the 40 something Dad with 3 kids that couldn’t fit a “real” Mustang into the budget or practicality checkbox. This is an option for that customer.

Ford didn’t stop building the Mustang for this car.

No one is arguing the fact that Ford is following any market trends or future speculation. The offended are up in arms because Ford has tagged the iconic Mustang Pony to a freaking minivan, jellybean, CUV, or whatever the hell else you want to call it.

Now everyone and their freaking grandmother is gong to call THAT thing their “Mustang”... and it’s NOT in any way, shape or form a freaking Mustang.

I hope the thing tanks.

It is the dumbest idea ever to put the iconic Mustang Pony onto that abomination. Sure it’s called the “MACH-E” (dumbest name ever) - but sticking the running Mustang Pony to it is making everyone think “it’s a Mustang”. Hell, you even have the MACH-E fanboys over on MACH-E calling it a Mustang....

and posts being started now comparing a MACH-E up against a GT500... are you serious?!? The top of the line MACH-E has 333hp... that compares to a GT500 now?

This MACH-E is a joke... it’s not a Mustang, it never was a Mustang and will never be a Mustang. I hope the Mustang Club of America takes a stance and declines it from being accepted into any shows as any heritage relation to a Mustang - its NOT a Mustang.

I bought more shares today because I’m expecting a rally next week - the opinions here represent very little of the typical target market for that car.

Anyone seen this video yet?

Seem pretty confident of the Mach 1 (the true mach 1) is returning in 2021 to replace the bullitt.

I’d be interested in seeing the opinion on this Mach E based on age range

For all of you that are pi$$ed off about this, there might be another part of the announcement that will make you feel a little better. Still under embargo so all I’ll say is, wait for the other shoe to drop.
The new Mach 1? Seems like CJ spilled the beans in their video above

I think electric is the future, I just don't get the name. Why use Mustang if it's not a Mustang?

Could have used pretty much anything else. Maybe they are just using the name to hopefully help boost sales.

When I saw the name I assumed it was literally an electric Mustang.
