A twin turbo DOHC V8 is coming with 800hp for the Z06.

Its going to be an absolute monster of a car!

The center of gravity will be too high and the engine will be too wide. Terrible.

GM will NOT let the C8 get a Blackwing engine.

The Blackwing engines are Cadillac only.

It may share some architecture or a few parta but thats it.

Katech has a 800hp NA LT1 now. Just think this in a C8. Id LOVE an 800hp ALL MOTOR mid engine Vette!

Reason I post this is the LT1 and LT2 have a lot in common.

The problem is emissions. That engine will never meet emissions. You could swap in a Predator from the GT500.

Huh? I dont give a damn about emissions neither do most of the aftermarkets unless they need to meet CARB for California. Honestly I could care leas about CA either.

Swap a Predator? Cmon that makes absolutely zero sense I wont even bother wondering why you brought it up.

You are missing my point. The LT1 and LT2 are quite similar. Meaning its legitimately is possible to drop a C8 off at Katech and say I want a 800hp All motor setup.

Buy a base C8 and let the aftermarket do the rest.....

Wait until someone offers a PD blower that fits the C8 LT2. I promise you there will be those type of options shortly.

Given the unmolested LT1 makes 455 hp @ 6,000 and the KaTech revs to 7600 (7200 peak), that's a sizable chunk of the HP increase right there. But it's also making 639lbft vs 460 so that's a healthy 39%. They have a significant increase in piston speed (3984fpm -> 4648) but still shy of the crazy numbers. Much better heads aside, piston weight has to be chopped back for the rods to survive. They didn't mention crank mods or expected longevity.

The LT2 gained less than 7% in HP supposedly thru better heads but didn't change RPM or much of anything. Lighter pistons, better rods, and another 1000RPM are "reasonably cheap" to develop. Maybe Chevy is waiting to release those for the GrandSport or Zora? If these guys with their very limited budget can improve things this much, GM really should take them up on it even if they have to increase engineering margin by 10%.

Destroke it slightly 92-> 89mm (3.5") would still displace 5.95l (vs 6.16) and buy you RPM up to 7900 easy (4600fpm). The COPO 427 motors go to 8000RPM despite a 4" stroke (101.6mm, 5333fpm) so this isn't exactly new ground. If you can get a cross-plane to rev to even just 7500RPM without going full retard, what's the HUGE expense of a flat-plane crank going to yield? Ford already did it so there are no bragging rights left. #metoo is lame.

Coming up with say a 4.5l flat-plane (derived from BlackWing?) would take considerable money and time. 92*84mm revving to 8200-8500 RPM isn't preposterous. The twin-turbo would help with the torque deficit. Hmm, I didn't realize just how "sad" the Ford GT rpm limits were... And they charge a quarter-mil for that car? Yikes.

Exactly why the 5.2 Voodoo engine is considered gigantic by FPC standards.

800hp NA impresses me FAR more than some 5.2 Supercharged DOHC Predator GT500 engine that makes 760hp LOL just sayin .. ..

I think it was @Hack that said the next z06 wont be twin turbo.

Who ever it was, how wrong and clueless can you get? 720s, pista, 600lt. All mid engine twin turbo v8 cars.

I think a big chunk of the gain on the LT2 was from the intake manifold, much more room to play with on the C8. Tick performance did a back to back dyno, first with a stock LT1 and then swapped a MSD intake and 95mm throttle body, gained 26rwhp. All on the stock tune with nothing else changed.

New rumor with the Z06 is that it will be N/A, 600hp range.

That would be fantastic. I would love to see that so I can pick up a lightly used one in a few years.
