did a kam reset, got rid of the bank variance, but it's still running lean when I get into it. Trims still going up 25% or more.

I think I'm done.

I think this issue is tied to the Bluetooth not connecting issue. MJC has his Bluetooth working and his is running fine.

my guess is the unit is shutting down from full alternator voltage. scanning for Bluetooth devices 1ft away with the engine running does not pick it up. Only engine off, Ign on.

I think you might have nailed it. It shuts down when the engine is running for whatever reason - could be voltage, could be something else. So, not only does BT not work, nothing else does either.

The photo of the wiring harness, to the extent it's accurate, doesn't show a power connector, so presumably it steals power from the injector harness. I wonder if Ford changed the way the injectors are triggered in 2018 and the way the gizmo taps power just isn't working.

This is kinda what happened to AUTO-BLIP in 2018 when Ford changed the sensor reference voltage for the accel pedal sensor. AUTO-BLIP was shipping out units to new customers and they didn't/couldn't work because the voltage was wrong.

I looked at the wiring diagram in the factory manual for my 2016 GT350 and on it, one side of every injector is wired to a common wire that's powered when the engine or fuel pump is powered. With a single loose ground wire to complete the circuit, AFD could easily steal a little of this power to run the unit. The other side of each injector goes to the ECU, which presumably pulls each line to ground to trigger the injector. The AFD unit would have a pull-down circuit for each injector that would lengthen the injector pulse after the ECU pulse ends.

It's possible that Ford reversed the polarity at some point - could be 2018 - where the new wiring has one side of all of the injectors connected to ground instead of 12V when the engine is running. If that rail floated when it's not running, then we'd probably see the behavior we're seeing. When the engine is off, there might be enough leakage current flowing through the ECU to provide power through the 8 injector coils to activate the AFD unit and give you the BT connection. Once the engine starts, the floating rail gets grounded and the AFD loses it's power supply and shuts down.

I know it's a theory, and that it's far-fetched. In fact, it's really out there, but hey, it's plausible. Of course, if this actually happened on all V8 Mustangs, they would have found this problem last year and fixed it by now. Even if it was only happening on GT350's they should still have found it and fixed it by now. So, maybe it's something else.

I am waiting for my service manual, let's compare notes when I get it. I don't think they reversed the polarity of the injectors though. They are the same injectors on the previous years. In fact the I jectors are the same as the 15-17 GTS.

So the BT connectivity is still not working while with the car running?

That's odd. I wonder if there is something with the Forscan on the newer models that is causing it not to work correctly.

For scan is a 3rd party app, nothing to do with the ecu.

Also this unit is transparent from the ecus calibration. It gets power from the injector harness and modules pulse width by intercepting the signal and outputting a longer one. That's it.
