it's been done. My T-bird is gone, victim of a truck rear ending it at a stoplight where I had been stopped about 30 seconds. My mother has a 97 cougar with very low miles she is giving to my niece as a first car. It will be a decently safe car for her. if I could see out the back instead of the tank slit it has, I would have snapped it up from her in a heartbeat and put a coyote in it myself. That said, it takes a lot of mods to the engine bay to do it from when I've seen other people doing it.

Buy a BRZ with a blown motor and drop an LS or Coyote in it. There's been several swaps already, seems like a fun combo to me too.

I owned one for 2 years, they're great. If I didn't love Mustangs I probably would have put a supercharger on my BRZ and that would have solved my issues with the lack of power.
Don't get me wrong, they do seem to be a fun vehicle! Problem is when they cost $26k plus, have only 205hp, and a VERY basic interior it becomes a hard sell compared to similar priced sports cars.

If I wanted something the size of a Challenger....I'd get a challenger. The mustang should be getting smaller an lighter. If that's their plan, I'm more than ok with them milking this platform as long as possible.

I honestly can't imagine 7th Gen coming out 2026 or later. That would mean that they would leave the market to the next Challenger and Camaro, both cars will be based on new platforms and surely release in the next 3-4 years.

Interesting that there is no news/speculation about Camaro development.
On recent news: According to Scott Settlemire GM is working on two future Camaro generations and we have the leaked Cadillac coupe that obviously share the same platform with the next Camaro (just take a look at the side profile). There was also Chevrolets survey about future Camaro engines. So there is talking about the next Camaro.

In the interim, Ford will reportedly roll out a heavily revised version of the current S550-generation Mustang with new bodywork. The Mustang hybrid was supposed to arrive with this mid-cycle refresh in 2020, though Automobile says it's been delayed to early 2022 now.

We all want a all new Mustang but a all new looking Mustang on the s550 platform is not a bad thing. With the s550 selling so well the cost of design and development has been paid for this will allow Ford to keep their costs down and keep Mustang around in the lean years that may be coming. It may even help boost sales when Ford reskinned the sn95 and came out with the New Edge sn95 sales went up. Anything well done that keeps Mustang in production is a good thing.

This is what I’m hearing. It is also very likely that Ford will make significant improvements to the S550. Not enough change to call it an S650, but more than just messing with sheet metal and interiors. I would not be surprised to see GT350 capability and chassis content make its way to GT.

I am okay with Ford delaying the introduction of an all new Mustang. I don't really need an all new Mustang. I would rather see Ford make improvements on the current Mustang. An all new Mustang could cause another production halt of the GT500. I would rather see continuous production of the GT500 and improvements made to the current Mustang.

IMO Ford also needs to put more effort and money into manufacturing quality. Imagine how much more love the Mustang would receive (and probably also result in better sales and less warranty payout & buy backs by Ford) if things like ticking/rattling engines, AC evaporators that leak, drivelines that vibrate, hoods that corrode, etc, etc didn't happen. These things have went on for years, and seems rediculous that Ford can't get some major issues resolved for good.

Indeed!

I don't think it will take much to keep S550 fresh and at the top of its game. It would be nice if it could lose a few pounds, but unless there ARE significant changes, I doubt we'll see much in that area, but you never know.

The drivetrain itself, is still strong, especially with Coyote v3 and the 10-speed. A little fine tuning is all that would be required in my opinion. Then throw in all new bodywork and a heavily revised interior and S550 V3 would be strong enough to last a good few years. It's this option, which we'll hopefully see for the '23MY, that I'm most excited about. And, at this point it'll be interesting to see if Ford still call it S550 or S650......that would tell us if these '26-'29 rumours are true.

I m guessing the next refresh mustang gt will get a power bump matching Bullit horsepower. Ford will keep it there for a long time till S650 comes out.

Ah, my favorite subject....."The Next Mustang" !!

Not a hint of any updates.....and trust me, I keep looking! Finger's crossed something will leak soon. With the future of the 7th Gen Camaro up in the air, now would be a good time to hear some solid info on what's coming next for Mustang :like:
