The strides made in developing the 500 will aid development of the s550 platform as a whole. Must be a lot of confidence in what was learned.

However, nothing replaces a platform redo from scratch, from the frame on. As it is, the s550 has a lot of s197 in it. Too much already.

And the car definitely shouldnā€™t get any larger.

But... Iā€™ve a feeling that the wide dimendions are related to road contact patches. And the car will be very squeezed in, like a widebody on a small car - or basically the gt500.

That said... Iā€™m looking for a new platform smaller car widebody characteristics in 2023. :)

S550 is the next fox chassis I feel. I love mine!

Take what you read on here with a grain of salt. Been saying that since 2015.

Not this time unfortunately pretty reliable sources are saying 2026 and up will be the next Mustang. It's almost official at this point. It's not a bad thing.

Since the primary source, Automobilemag, released the article on April 1st I'm not buying it. Especially the spotted 2021 Mustang mule with only a new frontend denies the "new sheetmetal from nose to tail" refresh mentioned in the article

If this is true I donā€™t see much of an issue with the bigger dimensions. If it does come out in 2026 more than likely the car have a lot of carbon fiber on it. I also hope not but the V8 might even go away in favor of a smaller engine with more horsepower, the coyote would already be 15 years old in 2026 after all.

Oh no I meant people saying that the 7th gen would be here in 2016, 2018, 2020 etc. In 2015 people were expecting a brand new chassis, engine and such for the Mustang 2016 for example :D

my 550i (F10) weights over 4354 lbs. the current one weighs in at 4372, and the mustang is 3702, so 652-670 lbs more than a mustang. The 2017 340xi is 3555, but is also an inline 6, not an 8, which will add a few pounds.

My 5 is 117" wheelbase and a length of 192". the 3 is 110" and 182" for wheelbase and length. So yes, a little bit longer of an overhang, but if you can push the wheels to the corners a bit more, it might help a bit.
Interesting on the weights. I was using the Wikipedia entry, which shows 3714 pounds. Who knows what model that's for, though.

The Charger has stayed around since forever. And while not the same the 911 does a good job hanging around for years with softer updates.

As long as Ford has a motor in it's pocket they will be fine. Release the GT500 that's a few years of heat. Release a GT500R or KR at the end and that will get a few years. Keep building on the already capable 460 HP Gen 3.

The thing handles. I think it looks good. No reason to reinvent the wheel if Chevy and Dodge are going to sit on the models for decades plus.

The rumors are currently saying the new Challenger comes in 2022-23, which will make it the freshest model at that point most likely and might make it hard on the Mustang for the last couple years there, but otherwise yeah there's no shortage of special editions they can cook up to keep it fresh.

Which is why Ford needs a competitor against the Toyota 86/Subaru BRZ - 200-350HP small 2+2 sports car!
They already have one with the base EcoBoost. Same price, better power, just bigger. Nobody wants to follow the 86/BRZ, combined the two only sold roughly 8,000 cars last year.

Dodge cuda rumors keep popping up as a smaller/lighter Challenger replacement too.
