I definitely don't agree, particularly on sound (I drove all the 2015 S550 variants and vastly preferred the V6 to the Ecoboost on sound alone). There are some good V6s out there. I get that everyone has preferences though.
I think the V6 got a bad connotation because of the SN95 days.... That being said, IMO the 3.7 is superior to the 2.3 in stock trim. Better sound and much better power curve.

The 3.7 is a great engine let down by gearing, and on the S550: options.

The V6 has always been a little bastardized IMO. Hard to sell as a performance engine to the masses, been the runt engine for years of base model cars, SUV’s and trucks and has seen a turn of acceptance largely in thanks to it being put in some well proven and sought after vehicles.

The 3.7 in the Stang was lightyears beyond the 4.0 and even further ahead of the 3.8 boat anchor. THAT was a turd of an engine.

I would disagree and say there are some V6’s that sound ridiculously good. The EB lineup isn’t one of them IMO, but they aren’t terrible by any means. The Nisan VQ engines, Ford 3.7, Hyundai 3.8 (Genesis), newer GM V6’s, etc. The old wheezy vacuum cleaner 6’s are largely a thing of the past.

IMHO, the 05-10 V6 engines were a terrible choice of engines. It was a good engine for the Ranger and Explorer, but carp for the Mustang. The 3.7 has more power than the 4.6 and lots of potential. If it was still offered and with the premium pkg, and other goodies, that would be my first choice.

Remember that Ford is selling this car internationally really successful. One of the keys is the 4 cyl engine, because some countries have insane penaly taxes for high CO² pollution.
The V6 on pre-refresh models was not available on export models, so it seems like it was not profitable enough to offer that engine for NA markets only. In my opinion the Ecoboost is a such better engine than the V6 we got, since it has more power and better mileage with the only downside being having less sound.

I don't think there's a place for a turbocharged V6 in the lineup since we already got the beloved V8 and some people just prefer the naturally aspirated engine. I guess V8-hybrid is the way to go for a more environment-friendly performance model

I respect you BMac. It's big of you not to call me names because I don't prefer V6s. Please continue...

V6s may work perfectly fine, make plenty of power (GTR/Ford GT) but I stand by what I said, that the V6 is the least noble of the cylinder configurations.

And if it weren't for the GT and the GTR, you guys would have problems coming up with anything good.

Agree with these posts. The crappy V6 in my 2003 Explorer has 240,000 miles on it. It doesn't burn or leak oil, works fine. But it's a total POS as far as I'm concerned. Perfect for a big SUV or a commuter where the driver doesn't care about performance or engine sound and just wants to get from A to B reliably.

Same with TT V6 or V6 hybrid or combos of all those things that are heavy and complicated. Great for a big SUV, but I don't want them in my Mustang.

People need to stop with the whole 4-door Mustang thing. There will NEVER be a 4-door Mustang. Ford won't ruin a legacy like Dodge did with the Charger. Dodge already had the Chally so they didn't need another 2 door. Ford isn't in that predicament. There will be a 4-door performance car like the Mustang, but it definitely won't be called the Mustang.

On to the turbo v6. This won't exist in a Mustang until it's time to change over from the V8 to the V6. They will do something similar to the F150 lineup by having a turbo v6 and a v8 for a little while to make sure the general public receives the v6 well enough to make sales goals. After a few years if the v6 does well they will drop the v8 in lower trims first like the GT and keep the v8 for specialty cars only. Eventually the v8 in specialty cars will go away and that's it.

As far as sound goes, any cylinder configuration can be made to sound good with enough work. But... sound is obviously subjective. I think the v8 and inline 6 motors(think 2jz) sound great. Older subies with unequal length headers also sound great. And of course, one of the best sounding cars of all time... The MK4 VW Golf R32(3.2-liter VR6 narrow-angle six-cylinder engine)

This car sings sweet music!

Go BMW - Turbo I6's all day long.
Phenomenal power delivery and Torque that will push you back into the seat (which is what I feel is missing in the high-revving S550 in the Mustang GT).
Smooth as butter too.
The N55s and B58 engines sound decent too (unfortunately the S55 in the M2 competition and M3/M4 don't sound so good without serious aftermarket exhaust help, and they'll never sound as good as the V8).

My wife has the 3.5 EB in a newer Explorer Sport. It's a nice engine, powerful, smooth, CAN get good mileage. It even sounds kinda boss when it cold starts if you stand behind it. So it's good for powering my wife's Explorer, I'm just glad it's not under the hood of my Mustang. I'm fan of EcoBoost'es.

And yeah, the BMW inline 6 turbo is a cool format!

I was recently watching some reviews of the M2 competition, and now that it got a bigger engine making more power I have thought seriously about a test drive.
Good luck with that. Before placing the order for my GT, I called my SA at my BMW dealer from whom I've bought my last two cars (both BMWs). He couldn't find one for me to sit in, let alone test drive, between September and November. Might happen once a few more get onshore, but certainly not at the moment.

I'd buy a modern I6 in a Mustang in a heartbeat. Silky smooth (because perfectly balanced).

I'd buy a TTV6 if its the hybrid system from the Lincoln Aviator Grand Touring model. It would definitely surprise and most likely beat a stock GT.
Per Car and driver- "The Grand Touring model adds plug-in hybrid technology to this powertrain, with an electric motor integrated into the 10-speed automatic. Total output is 450 horsepower and 600 lb-ft of torque."

All I'll say is this:

People would like the V6 more if they drove it with 3.73s. Ford put 3.15s on it and neutered it. Hard to have a fighting chance when your shoelaces are tied, so to speak.

A TTV6 would be a tuning monster. Stock is irrelevant, because we know it would still be fast. Like Coyote fast. But the TTV6 in the after market. A Stage 1 tune on 93 would probably boost you to the moon.
