I love my Ecoboost convertible and plan on keeping her forever but if I get to buy another Mustang it's going to be a V8

The GT and EB are both great. If you are like me and get the mod bug easily, get a GT. The EB is fun modded but you will spend more money making decent power. If fuel economy is priority, you can’t beat the EB. After my 2017 Focus RS decided to start leaking coolant into the cylinders with only 2000 miles and was part of the widespread RS motor recall, I’m very hesitant owning anything with that motor in it.

I started my 3 year journey to get mine starting with an EcoBoost. I had the ideal that I would step into a coyote, but I hadn't had a chance to drive one yet.

The first exposure to one was a rental car while I was on a business trip. I liked the way the car handled, the options, etc. So I knew if I added more power and a manual transmission it would be a really fun car. Fuel consumption wasn't bad for the week I had it, so it gave me something to compare to.

Then I test drove one that following summer. 6-spd manual with a 5.0. Loved it.

That following April we went to Maui and I rented an EcoBoost convertible for the wife, kids and I to scoot around in. Plenty of fun.

For the money the EcoBoost is a great car. If you want to play around with it but not get in over your head on options, etc., then I'd say it's a great car to have. However, me being a small block chevy guy there's no question which one I was going to aim for. A mustang for years has been my "unicorn" car ( the car I thought I'd never get) old or new. So I was going to go big (as big as my wallet would let me) no matter what.

Therefore, it depends on the type of person you are, how much $$$ you want to commit, etc., but in the end if you go with an EcoBoost b/c of those factors then you'll have fun. Just don't find yourself regretting not having V8 power to play with. If you think you will then step into a 5.0.

If this type of discussion starts a flame war then that's sad, because there's never going to be a win for that argument. Every driver is different.

My View

I've had both.First had an ecoboost manual premium...I traded it for a 2017 GT Premium manual with PP. Much preferred then2015 Ecoboost. Much more grunt in first 3 gears and just so much more torque down low.

I owned a 2016 EB Premium, put 30,000 miles on it with tune, intercooler, intake, bpv, full exhaust, etc.

I had a coyote car in 2011 when they first came out but I had to lemon that one and only drove it a little bit. So I ended up trading in the EB for a 2017 5.0 last summer.

The ecoboost definitely feels more nimble with the lighter front end, but I can't really recommend it past that. Even the fuel economy isn't that much better. Doing the same DD route my GT gets ~380 miles to a tank rather than the ~420 the EB did, really not a significant change.

And I paid less for the GT than I did the ecoboost since they were clearing them for 2018 models.

Its a matter of preference, and cost is a factor. Some of us can afford either but prefer the turbo over the V8 for other reasons. Both are great cars so test drive both and pick the car that is best for your circumstances and preference. Gas cost isn't that different unless you run 87 in the EB.

I disagree in regards to the performance and I’ve driven plenty of EB S550’s when I worked for ford. Even when my PP GT was stock, I would destroy stock EB mustangs. Now with some mods an on E85 it would take quite a few mods for an EB to hang. Great cars but not anywhere near being on the same level as a GT.

For me I don’t want to hear the loud motor....I’ve had 8 v8 mustangs since the 70s....so it’s a been there done that thing for me. I do agree the eco is a too soft of a sound though.

Plus I love to cruise around and the mpg is a factor too.

Lastly I’ll be buying the electric mustang someday too...I like the mustangs that are not built yet...even their front facias

These threads never get anywhere because they aren’t set up properly. You just can’t say Ecoboost or GT. More like loaded Ecoboost or would you rather get a base GT.

Or

Loaded Ecoboost or loaded but used GT- I think this one would be most controversial without being inter-model bashing.

So the money being equal...

For what it’s worth I would always get a base GT over loaded Ecoboost. But I would get the loaded Ecoboost over the loaded used GT as that car probably saw some “wear and tear” - Just saying... BTW: I totaled my first 5.0 and it was sold used to an unsuspecting buyer. No used car for me!

And a Purse... . Just joking Ecoboost owners, just kidding. There is a local guy who is running 7.90’s in the 1/8 mile in his EB Premium Auto with the factory tires. I think all he has is a tune, intake and catless Downpipe. It doesn’t spin and is super consistent.

I don't think any of those are considered a color.. it was a good natured ribbing type post.. evidently you're not amused :threadjacked:

OP means...
They want to know the difference between a V8 and a turbocharged inline-4...!

As the OP's questioning has nothing to do with the Mustang itself, but the engines. What we don't know (in all seriousness), is the knowledge level of the OP, or what he knows about cars and engines.

Choice?
If you are not a "Driver", don't need exact throttle shifts, or maintain a specific driving style, then you don't need a v8. On the other hand, If you just want to sport-around and have some good torque and all-around brilliant sporty car, then the EB is the way to go.

I personally would never buy a new car. I got a 2015 GT with 6k miles on it for under $27k. The MSRP was almost 44k. Do some homework and have it inspected, or better yet CPO.
How do you sell a totaled car as used? Doesn't totaled indicate the car would cost nearly as much to fix as its worth?
