New clutch at 27k

Just a heads up for others to watch for, but had my clutch replaced at 27k. Saw someone else posting on FB and on here also replacing clutch at a few fewer miles. Never done a clutch drop or burnout, but probably 20k of these miles have been pretty hard canyon runs. Guessing I have one of the highest mileage 350's. Only engine mods is catless, jlt intake and Lund tune.

Started by noticing pulling away slowly from a stop it began to have a stuttering feeling and having to feather the gas a bit more. Before, I was able to take off from a stop without going over 1000rpm and perfectly smooth. Started becoming noticeable and more prevalent around 25k. In the canyons when I would upshift under load, it would take about a second after shifting and getting on the throttle before it would feel like it grabbed and lunged forward again. When downshifting, same thing, just felt like a bit of a delay and slippage.

I have the service care plan that covers wear items, so it was free of charge to replace for me, but they did say that it was pretty well done. I forgot to ask them to keep it so that I could take pics of it. Just got my car back today after a month. My AC compressor went out as well as a couple leaking lines within the system that were all replaced. Also new brake pads and rotors and fuel filter. Car got a good refresh. Can't wait till the clutch gets back to feeling normal. The engagement of the new one feels a bit odd and the pedal is a bit more springy feeling, not as linear as before. They said it should go back to normal after a bit of driving.

But just throwing all this out as a heads up and things to look out for as people are putting more miles on these cars and discovering their quirks and issues. No reason to not drive them though, enjoy every minute!!!

If you dont mind me asking, which service care plan is this and how mucu was it for and for how long?

I think this is the 2nd or 3rd clutch post here so maybe this car has a clutch problem.

It's a plan they offered me, was $2500ish that covered wear and tear items such as brakes, clutch, filters, oil changes, etc. Separate from the warranty. There are stipulations to it, like the brakes have to be below a certain measurement, the clutch as well. But with the bill yesterday alone, it paid for itself. I believe it's basically one of those things where they know what their cost is of buying parts and adds that to the car price. So through my loan I paid for the parts at cost without having to pay for labor and markup and all. But it's transferable across dealerships

Wow - clutch gone at 27k. That's not good. I've been driving manual transmission cars since 1971 (currently have 3 of them, all with big V8s) and I can say I've never actually worn out a clutch, although I have replaced a few just to try something new. I would think a dual disc clutch would last for 100,000+ miles easily. Hope it's not some sort of cost-cutting defect due to the lowest bidder.

Just speculating but it could this be due to NVH nature of this engine?

So no beef with the no cat/mods on wear/warranty work ?

I’m at 26000 miles and also feel like I’m getting near the point at which a new clutch will be needed. I’ve got 4 track days on mine, and that is where I get most of the wear. My Z has had one clutch replaced in 200,000 miles, so I feel that it isn’t all due to my driving. Hoping to get to 30,000 miles or so, and then maybe replace it with an aftermarket one. We will see how things go.

I wonder if you're referring to me. I had a clutch replaced at 26k under warranty because the dealership suspected it was slipping and contributing to the numerous issues I have with the car. Got it replaced under warranty with no problem, but it didn't fix my other issues, but that's another topic, lol.

Never really drove my car hard. One Auto X session and one track session. The rest is just daily driving and spirited every now and again.

You can't resurface a dual mass flywheel.
