Just had the clutch installed and can’t find anything in the manual specific to the break-in procedure.

The Ford transmissions tech said just drive it normally and that there wasn’t any instruction regarding varying speeds, low rev shifting etc. He mentioned that new materials make it so you don’t have to observe any specific break-in.

Does this make sense or is there some specific advice for this clutch that Ford didn’t put in the manual? In the old days you had to city drive it for a few hundred miles at low recs as I recall.

If I average out the mileage referenced by several aftermarket clutch vendors, it's 500 miles of common street driving, plenty of engagements and dis-engagements, before any launches, dyno time or conditions that would severely load the clutch.

I would just try to avoid slipping the clutch excessively or launching at higher RPMs for the first few days. I wouldn't worry about how much power you apply once the clutch pedal has been released.

Here’s the recommendations for a vengeance clutch I am currently putting on my GT. I plan on doing more than this though.

Thank you. That seems to be the consensus for aftermarket clutch’s I’ve see as well. I double checked with the Ford tech I know fairly well and he checked their data and found no such similar warnings.

Just drive it normally for a few hundred miles. Like others have stated, no high revs, clutch dumping or burnouts. I just did a swap back to all OEM GT350 clutch assembly, flywheel, and throwout bearing from a SPEC Stage 2 clutch. Had to go back to stock due to back and hip injuries and difficulties pushing down the heavy duty clutch. Rides smooth as butter. I did add the GT350 short throw shifter and much better driving overall.

Have fun driving.

What would high revs be? I’ve probably had it over 6k a couple of times shifting but no dumps from a dig or burnouts.

High revs would be some what close to redline, but not redline…say, redline is 7k, would recommend keeping about 1-1500 rpm below, on average For break in. Progressively reving higher as you get more miles on it. You can rev to redline but if it were me, I would do a smooth acceleration to it and not hit it rapidly Until after you get some miles on it. Albeit, you can rev to redline immediately but you never know if there is some break in anomaly lurking in the clutch assembly. In other words, better to be safe than sorry. I feel after going through the time and expense of getting a new clutch, I want to take it easy until I get some miles on it. I have over 1000 miles on my new clutch, so I feel comfortable taking it to redline now.
