We have a sport sedan here. Check out the 2017 Fusion Sport AWD. 325hp and 380tq from it's 2.7L Twin Turbo V6. They are good for 1/4 miles in the high 13's at just shy of 100 mph. That performance is on par with Mustang GT's with the 4.6L 2V & 3V V8's (1999-2010)
AWD is boring. There is a reason BMW sports sedans are RWD.
Kia have even just realised the world needs a RWD sports sedan in the new Stinger. meanwhile Ford and GM close down RWD production in Australia. How dumb are they both?

Ford made the V6 into the proverbial step child with the S550 change, hardly any significant options were available for it. The biggest option for it was a package with upgraded wheels and power seat. I think Ford shot itself in the foot when it tried to push the four banger over the V6 in a muscle car. The V6 made decent sounds and as fast as some V8 Mustangs from not all that long ago.
Seeing as the V6 only accounted for 15% of sales you are one of the very few people who feel this way.

We’ve heard rumblings that Ford would dump the V6 engine option—which only accounted for about 15 percent of sales—for 2018 to only offer the 2.3-liter turbocharged EcoBoost four-cylinder engine, which had more power anyway, and the 5.0-liter V8. Now we know it’s the truth. Godspeed, V6 Mustang. I greet this news with a resounding “meh.”
As far as Ford shooting itself in the foot, the majority agree with this.

Autoblog said:
With the ascendancy of the EcoBoost, the V6 has been taken behind the barn and unceremoniously shot. Well, no one will miss it in its most recent incarnation, so that's that.
I fully respect your opinion to prefer the less powerful and economical engine.

I would have never bought the GT, It is more powerful then the I4T and is faster but I just don't like NA motors so I would have never bought a V6 either.

The numbers show that either there are alot more people like me or alot more people who don't give a damn about the cylinder count.

S550 is not selling better than the S197:

S550's first year (2015) = 122K units
S197's first year (2005) = 161K units

S550's second year (2016) = 106K units
S197's second year (2006) = 166K units

S550's third year (2017) is not done yet, but selling 6-9K per month won't even get it to 100K units, whereas the S197's third year (2007) = 135K.
I think they meant to compare the 11-14 model years (I think that would be the most direct comparison considering how they share the same engines for the most part minus the eco for 11-14). Though in the early years there was not much competition to the Mustang as there is now.

They shut down production because of the all mighty dollar. Production costs in Australia are just to high to make the profit they want to make.

yes there is nothing eco about ecoboost. our Focus ST uses the same gas as my GT and the 4.0L straight six in my Aussie built Ford Falcon.
I love the raptor as my daily. Sure, its not a 30mpg econobox but it gets 19 mpg without auto off on, athough it drops to 16 with a heavy foot. 19 is good for such a large/heavy vehicle.

You would also need to take into consideration Ecoboost sales and its effect on Non-Ecoboost sales. As well the average sales price per unit of each and how that has moved. All adjusted for inflation as well of course.

Those sound like Camaro6's version of Mustang fleet sale numbers to me. Of course the Mustang sold better in 2005. There was only Mustangs in the Muscle car category. What was the Mustang competing with in 2005? Dodge Neons and 350Z's. Oncethe Camaro showed up. The S197 was always in second place. The s550 Doesn't suffer that shame.

2005 to 2008 there was 0 competition and it was the only option, 2008 the challenger came out and then 09 the Camaro came out. Look at the numbers then and I am right. Can't compare it to the first years, as ford could have made a giant pile of dog crap and sold huge numbers when there is no competition.

Well, according to the chart at the beginning of this thread, Ford has sold 84,216 Mustangs in the last 12 months. Ford sold 82,635 Mustangs in the last model year of the S197 (2014) when there was plenty of competition, so the S550 hasn't really moved the needle in terms of sales volume versus the outgoing car, IMO.

If anything, I think we can agree that a new Mustang redesign bolsters sales for a year or two, then sales flatten out.

I'm excited to see what affordable (non-Shelby) special edition Mustangs Ford will bring to the table in 2018 & 2019. The 50th anniversary of the movie Bullitt and the Mach 1 & Boss models are great opportunities for Ford to bring back some iconic models with increased style & power!

considering the s550 is selling leaps and bounds better than the s197 i would have to disagree
The S550 is doing well, but I wouldn't be surprised if it could be doing even better if the V6 was given the same chance as the I4.

Make your comparison with MY2015. Redesigns of ANY car will like see a jump in sales followed by a steady decline.

He was responding to the claim that the S550 has outsold the S197, which it has not.
