Just realised why these hood vents were looking different to me.....then I saw the standard US ones sit in a recess, where as the UK DIY mod sits on top of the bonnet.

Is there any consensus on whether these help with bonnet flex at speed? I was accelerating hard today and the bonnet really flexes and bends badly as speed increases. To be fair I was going just a bit quick but even so I've never had a car where the bonnet flexes so badly. It's quite alarming and Ford should be ashamed if they released a car with this if it's an endemic issue.

Yeah, they do look stuck on unfortunately. I had this down as a top mod, but may put on the back burner now:)

They do sit on, rather than be recessed into the bonnet, however, they in no way, look out of place. Showed this to a top notch and very persnickety car restorer yesterday and he was, to say the least, wowed

Don't be afraid Chaps, I'm in this for the long run though and don't have to worry regarding re-sale. I might still buy a 2020 model, if it's got vents as standard. Bearing in mind, us early birds had no idea whether the car was coming with vents or not, most of us were disappointed when it became apparent that they didn't, been top of my mod list for a long while.

Thanks Mike at Modurstang for making this happen, his parting words were,'it's the way they should've came'

Agreed, again, thanks Mike

I think they are a good compromise if you are after the OEM look but don't want to import a GT hood.

Its not as clean but its as good as you are gonna get.

I echo Georges comments above, as for flex on the bonnet, i dont notice mine as much, im still yet to do a spirited drive with them on but i used to get a lot of wobble at 70, and no longer do.

Does anyone know if there is a template online showing where the bonnet should be cut?

My vents + Starkey LED indicator kit are on their way, but I will need to get my local (generic) bodyshop guy to do the work.... where do you cut is going to be his first question me thinks!

Well, I'd watch Mike to do it all, but honestly, there was a point where he has a tape measure out, and did some drilling and such... So there was some finessing there, and precise measurements are a myth to me. (Love mine, and did go full OCD to see if they were fitted the same distance each side, and they are, no wonky vents for me!)

I know this isn't a great help, but it does line up with the holes in the second skin.

Yeah, you'll see the cut outs under it, the holes and such where the pins will go.

If your guy wants a good enough go, probably best to drill through the corner pins holes to get where they are.

The pins do have to be cut off, or at least Mike did that so it sat totally flush.

Expect a lot of filing on that hood :)! And make sure they use a really good metal cutting blade, because last thing you want is it making a mare out of them!!!

My car when it went to have it's wheels done, they knew i'd had the vents put in, chap popped the hood and took a look said it was one of the nicest cuts of metal he'd seen in a while.

You mention filler, so did you need paint too?

Out of interest what is the install cost in the UK?

Mikes 60ish per hour + Vat. But honestly, as I know you sometimes come to the UK, save it for him, best will in the world someone else can do it, but you want a proper job done not a "try and try again" job. Which is why I'd gone to Modurstang, and why most of us have!

Filler as in, sealant, He used 3m Polyethylene sealant. It's rock solid on there lol!

The vents can't sit and clip in like they do in the USA, because our hood isn't rolled in so they don't reach.

I agree here with Manders, wait till you come over, make a weekend of it, Mike says that this is the most stressful job he does to a Mustang, he'll get it right though

He can do it in a morning, tape it up for you so as the sealant gets a chance to go off when you drive it away. He also makes a very neat job of the soundproofing/heat shield under the bonnet, this needs cut away as well to stop it getting saturated and affecting the whole area with water.

Don't worry re water ingress, any water that gets in drains off into innocuous areas and doesn't get to anywhere that would cause concern. This was a concern to me initially, but after a good couple of snowfoams and washes, it's all good under there.

Again, his last words were, 'the way they should've came' ;)
