GT350 DIY Oil Change

I haven't gotten my first oil change yet but stopped by dealership to b.s. the other day. And was mentioning at service that I've read that its real messy changing the oil when you take filter off. Before I could say another word the guy that said he'd be changing it said he intends to take the belly pan off first, that its no big deal and easy to do to keep oil from getting all up under it. That broke me into a big happy smile and really increased my confidence in my dealership.

My dealer can't install a front splitter correctly, I certainly wouldn't trust them to change my oil.

To completely remove the belly pan, the splitter will basically need to be removed. I wouldn't want them doing that. really all that is needed is some care and a form-a-funnel. This really isn't all that difficult.

Sorry should have mentioned the splitter. They didn't have the splitter on the car when I bought it. Said they were waiting to see if customer wanted it on there since it makes the car even lower in the front. And I told them to leave it off that I wasn't going to track it and wanted the more height in the front because of scrapping and unless you know these cars most wouldn't even notice it isn't on there. So I still have it in the box.

I know what you are saying. I had to install mine as it came in the trunk and I will say its a bit tricky to get on correctly. Once you've put a couple of them on I think you should be pretty good to go on them.

I just changed my oil again. I had no spillage. I let the car drain overnight (probably not practical) and when I loosened the oil filter, only a little oil dripped out of the trap door.

I saw the OP used a Pennzoil branded filter wrench. Any other recommendations? Been going through some of the reviews on Amazon, and there are reports of other brands breaking when applying ~ 15 lb/ft.

I just bought the stamped steel one from advance auto. Worked fine for me.

I bought a cheapie from O'Reilly's. It tends to want to slip so I just put a paper towel between the wrench and the filter to tighten up the gap. It also helps soak up any oil that runs down the filter.

74.2mm fit perfect for me, no slip, don't need to place anything in it to take up space as it is the right size. I believe someone said a 74mm will work as well. I bought one on Amazon for under $15.

I've done 4 oil changes on my car now.

I loosen the filter first then put a ziplock bag around it for the rest of the way. No mess here!

I tried my best to minimize the mess and still had some cleanup, mainly the harness right under the filter. Thanks for the right up, it was pretty straight forward but good to have something to reference if needed!
