In his original story, he said that the car had three engines and all of them "cried uncle". Then he got the R. So, that means it was going to be four engines total if he wasn't offered an 'R'. What happened to engine #3?
No, no. Two failed engines and the OWNER cried uncle. Engine #3 went into the car but he didn't keep it(can't blame him).

Worked out a deal to get the R...

LATEST AND GREATEST! It seems the shut down must have affected engine builds in a good way at the Romeo plant. My Engine should be shipped by the end of the week. The weather here has been incredible and maybe I can get Christine back to enjoy some of it.

Spoke to a co-worker and former Ford Master Technician today. I have been keeping him in the loop on the details. He seems to think that the metal in the oil is what caused the phaser to lock and fail. He also said that it is most likely a bearing failure which caused the metal in the oil. Still no engine. Still no car. 39 days and counting : (

Yeah, SUCKS. I discovered this a few weeks ago. So know we have a signature plaque to an engine we have no clue who built. Hilarious. Also it does not include TB, Manifold...etc. I still have not received my engine. Did you get to see yours Kyle?
I didn't get to see my new engine before it was put into the car, I was out of town.

I did go check on the car this past Saturday and briefly looked it over. I think the dealership is giving me the run around, I don't know why it's not finished yet. On Tuesday of last week they said they had my old engine out and were transferring parts from it to the new engine. Then I called Friday to see what the status is. I was told they have 2 techs working on it, the new engine was in and all they had to do was reinstall the exhaust and the "drive line". It was supposed to be done Friday afternoon before they closed. I called an hour before they closed after not hearing anything and was told the car isn't finished, that the tech had to leave early to pick up his son. I asked if my car would be worked on Saturday during their service hours and my advisor said he had no idea. Saturday, I dropped by midday unannounced after the service department had been open for a few hours. My advisor took me to my car so I could look it over, nobody was working on it. He told me the tech was looking for, or ordering, a couple of bolts that need replacing or have gone missing. When we got to the car, I was checking it over while my advisor talked to a tech working on a Ford Ranger nearby. He said the tech had to work on the Ranger first since it was a "Saturday job" (I helpfully reminded him that on this day, my car is spending it's 5th Saturday with them). My advisor told me after talking to the tech that all my car needs is it's fluids topped off then the tech can start the engine and check everything over. He said the tech would work on my car in about 45 minutes after finishing the Ranger. They never called me back...

Also, I had the car appraised while there. They said they'd give me $45k for it! I was told that the engine replacement hurts my value and also the recall on the oil lines means they have to lowball me significantly so they can afford to have the car sit on their lot for months until the recall is done.

WOW!!!! I think that appraisal is bogus and a low ball offer. I think they know how you are feeling and are trying to take advantage of the situation. I'd be willing to bet once you get her/him back, you could have it appraised else-wear and get a much higher offer. Either way I think you should keep the car. Believe me I have the same sentiment as you but this car is ridiculous. I do not believe you could get I better car for the money. This car has gobs of soul and character! Give her a second chance.

****UPDATE****

****UPDATE****

Apparently the engine arrived Friday. I specifically asked the Ford rep and my dealer to contact me when it arrived. No one did. Great communication thus far!I called the dealer late Monday afternoon and like magic, it's here! lol

Tech is taking his sweet time and I am glad he is. Looked over the new motor and the prep for the motor pull. As previously stated, bare long block with new sensors, filter, oil. All other cosmetic and accessory items have to be transferred over. Not expecting to get the car back this week. Also noticed that my car had been placed outside sometime between I last looked at her week 1/2 ago. I specifically asked them to park the car inside.

I will be at the dealer every evening after work to look over the work and to document progress.

Congrats!!! thanks for posting pictures and info. My car is running good so far with it's new engine, though I've only driven it for 3 trips so far and maybe 25 miles total.

Quick question. Do these engines still need the recall work done or are they coming with the new oil cooler lines?

In my case at least, my original oil cooler lines were reused. Therefore my car is still awaiting the recall work to be performed.
