Wait, I thought quality was job 1, what happened ? Clearly the Rock and the ford specialists were not called in on this one.

I'll I can say is Ford sucks ass, can trust anyone to care for your car. I put my motor in with 0 scratches to the frame or tunnel area. So frustrating to see careless work like this.
I wouldn't say all of Ford or all technicians but damn!!! This kind of shit is outrages! I was a little luckier than you Kyle. My tech was very careful during install and I am appreciative of that.

Remember all you bashing Ford directly - its the DEALER that did all this poor work. Blame them, maybe put some on Ford for their QA of the dealers, but give the vast majority to the DEALER....

Oh and I would be raising holy HELL with the dealer about the missing fasteners and harness attachments - no excuse for that, just poor work by the mechanic.

Yea, I understand it's the dealer. For me, I can spend my time going to dealer and trying to get them to fix their crappy work and hope that they do it right, or I can fix it myself (at least the missing/loose fasteners). I do intend to let the dealer know what I found, and I'd like to let Ford know too. I guess I'm going to PM Ford Service on here so I can show them pictures. However, in doing that, the dealership will not be happy. I've been through this before, right after I bought my car one of my axle's CV boot was leaking. I complained about it to Ford Service and they opened a ticket against my dealership. At that time the dealership did nothing wrong, but they were very defensive and upset that I "complained about them" to Ford Service.

Really all I wanted to do was complain to Ford that my brand new car broke within 200 miles of use. Little did I know my engine would be breaking a few months later...

Anytime there is an issue you are not satisfied with, you need to file a complaint with Ford. This is factored into their annual ranking. I have been to a certain Ford dealership that was the absolute WORST experience and I filed a complaint. Somehow this dealer gets the top award for service from Ford and they called me asking me to rescind my complaint if they did XYZ. I told them - you had your chance, you made my life more difficult than it needed to be to make your life easier... not appropriate. More people need to file complaints when there's an issue. I've had it up to hear with dealerships telling me they can't replicate this or don't know about a very common issue (like the dash rattle) or mysteriously never have anyone available ever to work on my car unless I leave it there, etc., and Ford has consistently been the WORST. There's no budget given to diagnostics anymore and it seems like they have to fit too much into a day to make a buck. Never had a single thing to whine about at Chevy and even though the MB dealerships I went to never found the issue I was having, at least the tech gave it a real try and I got a loaner when I was without my car even though I didn't buy the car from their dealership. I don't feel the need to be treated like a king, but I do feel the need to be so heavily inconvenienced and it's not wrong to expect top quality work from a dealership representing the Ford brand.

I agree with complaining when there's a problem. It motivates the dealer and Ford to do better.

Kyle, looks like the rubber insert that goes into the hole by the block is missing?? Same type of hole is on LS motors and most modular Ford's. They all have a big rubber plug to keep debris out.
this is my second motor and both look identical minus the vin of course. No plug.

Well it goes from the back side. You would have to insert it before installing the flywheel. All 4.6/5.4 motors i've ever built has had it. I'd be curious to see if my 5.0 does.

I didn't notice that, thanks for pointing it out. Is the opening used for inspection or what?

Right, and the replacement motors are delivered with a new fly wheel pre-installed. I will look again but I don't think its there.

Yes my new motor came with the wrong flywheel (flex plate) installed and no plug. I had to swap over my old flywheel and the plug from the old block. Yes they forgot to put the plug back in. Funny I did a better job than a Ford master tech at following there step by step directions.

Not to second guess you, but could you provide details from the FSM (or wherever it is you've been posting documentation from) that shows there's supposed to be a plug there in the voodoo platform? This is definitely something I will go to the dealership for and make sure they get right.

I'm thinking about how that steering pinch bolt you helped me identify as being loose, how it could've vibrated loose and gotten into that hole while the flywheel, clutch, pressure plate are all spinning at high RPM. What a mess I'd have on my hands [fighting with Ford on that warranty claim]!

This is from the 5.0, but it's the same.
