It seems every time I check the oil it needs 1/2 a quart. Mine is using 1 quart every 900 miles with Motorcraft 5-50. The catch can in that time got about 100ML of contaminants.

I changed the oil yesterday with Amsoil 5-50 and drained the catch can. If anything changes I will post it up.

This is the highest performance engine I have owned in a car and from reading this forum this is not unusual but makes me wonder.

Do non induced high performance cars have higher oil consumption than say a Honda Civic?

I just posted in a different thread about this. Mine has 4000 miles on it. I had my initial oil change done around 700 miles. Since then it has used 1 1/2 quarts of oil. I took it to the dealer and they are having me do a 1000 mile test to see how much it uses and will go from there.

This is the first car I've had that uses any oil. My two other high performance cars (M3 & M4) didn't use any.

Don't know about that... My E60 M5 was using about a quart per 1000 miles, and my 335xi was (from new , to 100k miles) using give or take half that... so a couple of quarts between oil changes.
The E90 M3 was using less, but still had to top off a bit.. My E46 M3 was never using oil though, no matter how driven.
My even older E36 M3 was again using oil if I track it, never just around town, at low revs...

You obviously did not drive them properly... They are meant to be REVVEDDD!:)

But back on track, my 350 is still full mark regarding oil, after 1000 miles trip home, and 400 miles around here, and I light up the head up display rev light daily, how can I put this...:)

Hmm, I never said all BMWs never used oil and I tracked both of my M3 and M4 so yah, they got REVVEDDD!

Just answering OPs post with my own experience.

Changed oil at 800 miles. I'm at 1300 now, down about a 1/3 a quart based on the dipstick reading

I've been getting about a tablespoon out the oil catch can every 500 miles. The Dipstick is still at the full mark after 1000 miles.

My 1st oil change was at 1200 miles, I now have 7600 miles on the car. Did my 2nd oil change last week. During the 6300 miles my oil level dropped from the upper limit on the dipstick to just above the lower line. I have been checking the catch cans every 2000 miles and they have been collecting about 1 ounce of oil for every 1000 miles. Based on my other vehicles, I would think this is normal for this engine.

Isnt this normal on a performance V8 especially high revving?

Great thread, but I'd like to suggest that when you post your numbers, also describe your break-in procedure. I think that has a lot to do with oil consumption, and the info collected here could show that.

I'll check mine again today, but so far it hasn't used a measurable amount in about 4K miles since the previous oil change. My break-in procedure was to vary the RPMs up to about 6k with moderate to full load on the engine. I changed the factory oil as soon as I got it home to conventional oil, and again at 1000 miles to synthetic. I let her rip after that. Still on that batch of oil, but will probably change again when the weather cools off.

I'm a firm believer that new engines need lots of cylinder pressure to seat the rings properly, which is why I use the procedure I described.

First oil change at 1000 miles I was down about 1.5 quarts. Just checked oil at 1500 miles and 1 track day almost down a quart. Dealer has no idea wants to keep checking for leaks. Broke the engine in as ford recommended.

If you track these cars (and GTs) with R Comps or slicks and you are pushing more than 1.2g the oil will push up into the DRIVERS side cam cover and get drawn into the air filter inlet tube. I run both Ford Racing catch cans and had this happen to me at Indianapolis. The drivers side can filled up and then started to get drawn into the intake tube and manifold. At one point I got a huge cloud out of the exhaust and thought I blew the motor. Engine is fine but you have to keep an eye on this with the stock oil pans. Planning o getting a Moroso pan on my '16 GT and maybe doing a proper catch can/breather setup from Peterson like I have on my '11 Cobra Jet GT.

Every Mustang I have ever owned has used about a quart of oil every 3-5k miles. I run the shit out of them and just figured that's why. My 350 doesn't have many miles yet so I don't know how it will be. I'm still in "the break in period" so time will tell.

None so far. Then again I'm not tracking the car and my driving style should best be described as spirited.

i have 600 miles on my new car. Oil level is consistent. I know the drivers side venting is suppose to have more oil in it on these cars, but right now it has none, and the passenger side has oil in it. Guess i need two oil catch cans
