I've wondered this too. You would prolly have to remove your reverse light to let the air escape but could work?

This past Saturday I ran my second HPDE. On my second and third sessions, the diff temp light came on at the end of the 20 min sessions. Air temp was a cool 64 degrees and I have my exhaust wrapped with header wrap. The rest of the day the light never came on and air temp warmed up slightly to 70. Frustrating but weird that it only came on twice in the morning when it was cooler.

So, whats the concensus? Redline 75W140 or BG Ultra-Guard LS to keep the torsen diff cool at the track?

FWIW, I've yet to get the temp error on my car after 4 days of HPDE and a bunch of autox. (just lucky I guess, but I do run with TC off)

I had issues with the BG Ultra-Guard LS 75w90 but the Guys using 75w110 or higher are not having issues, my next try will be 75w110. I think it depends on the track and driver experience, but hopefully we would have a diff cooler soon.

Seeing how you guys seem to have better luck with the warning on track with thicker oil we decided to add it. It will be up this weekend on the website. We will have with the Combo kit as an option. We have it by the qt so if the Track Pack Shelby guys wanted to try it.

I have the Ford Racing touring exhaust which is Borla.
I'd be interested to see the gaps between the exhaust pipes and your diff. After wrapping my exhaust pipes with header wrap last night, I can tell you the factory exhaust basically makes a little nest for the diff to sit in. An aftermarket exhaust could make the problem better or worse depending on routing and fitment.

Also turning on Track Mode doesn't entirely disable all of the 'traction control' features. To entirely disable AdvanceTrac (yaw) and Traction Control (rear wheel traction) you need to hold the traction control button down for like 5-8 seconds (second button from the left on the premium cars). Just using the mode button to put the car in Track mode doesn't turn it all off, FWIW.

Good to know. My next track day I will do this. I don't have a pic of the exhaust. I would need to jack it up to get a decent pic to show the clearance but I can do this in the next day or so.

Thanks to MagnaFlow it looks like track users have a good, nearly mandatory mod:

exhaust wrap the exhaust section 'nestling' the differential. All exhaust systems can benefit, IMO.

...and perhaps maybe wrap a foot forward from the diff, to prevent a bit of extra heat dissipation from flowing over stuff.

3 rolls can cover what I think is required - if you have the diff as the goal.

(my own .02, ive decided to wrap as much as reasonable to deal with a lot of heat boiling up from under the car as well as in the hood)
