I know besides color options Ford hasn't announced much about the 2017 Mustang. Wanted to check with you resident experts, based on history or gut instinct, if there was any expectation or precedent for Ford including the performance package for the auto version of the GT.

I'm weighing custom ordering a Mustang now or waiting until summer for the 2017 model and it's kind of the last cherry on top that I want to grab ideally.

And ya, I know manual is always better but I live in the middle of 20 million people and ~traffic~.

Right now, I think this is one of two reasons to potentially wait for the '17. The only other would be if you're wanting Deep Impact Blue, Guard or Competition Orange......as those won't be available on the '17, and will be replaced with Grabber Blue, Lightning Blue and a magnetic white.

The PP was available with auto on the '15 50th Anniversary Limited Edition.......so it is possible :)

The odds are yes but only time will tell.
The auto/perf pack was a major "unique" feature for the 15 LE and Ford had to keep unique while those cars were sold in 14/15. Thus the 17MY will be the first opportunity to offer it GT wide.

However, if there is a refresh coming in 2018MY then it could be delayed until then as part of a new marketing program.

I assume most are aware that the auto perf pack (if and when) would come with 3.55 gears and not the 3.73s with Torsen that the manual gets because on internal tranny gearing with an auto.

I'm also in the same boat keeping a daily driver "alive" while waiting to see if Ford makes the auto/perf ok available in 17. But I'm running out of time with the old driver.....

I could see Ford delaying this to 18 if they are rolling out a new auto transmission then. Either way I am ready to get an S550 in the next 6 months. I want to drive this one a good bit more than I do my '12, hence the auto.

I have ZERO "inside" information...just what my "gut" tells me. I don't think Ford will make the PP available on automatic equipped GT's until the model's mid-cycle refresh in the 2018 model year. This is when Ford is supposed/rumored to release their 10 Speed Automatic Transmission, along with a slightly "refreshed" body style. I will be surprised if the 2017 model year has any significant changes to any of the model trims, except the availability of the three new colors.

In my opinion, Ford will make the following changes/upgrades to the Mustang for the 2018 Model Year:

1. Slight increase in horsepower and torque for GT (15 HP and 10-15 FT LBS of torque).
2. Reduce the weight of the GT by 50ish pounds; EB's/V6's may lose weight too...how much? Maybe 20-25ish pounds.
3. Replace the current 6 Speed Automatic transmission with a new 10 Speed Automatic.
4. Offer the Performance Package with an automatic transmission on the GT.
5. Increase the horsepower and torque for the EB (15ish HP/20-25 FT LBS of torque).
6. No significant changes for the V6; in fact, if the EB continues to sell well, the 2018 Model Year may (I don't know what percentage I would assign to the possibility) be the last year it (V6 model) will be sold to consumers. The V6 Mustang may become a car only to sold to rental companies, i.e. Fleet Sales. I say this because I believe car rental companies won't purchase and rent EB's, due to potential costly repair issues with their turbo four engines.

I would say, to compete with Camaro: (spare me the Mustang does not compete with Camaro thing)

MY17= PP on the Auto.
MY17= HP/TQ up slight
MY18= 10 speed transmission
MY18= Magnetic Ride Control on the GT

I dont think anything until the 2018 refresh. The 2017 ordering starts soon here, they had to procure material so the features are likely set in stone now. I highly highly doubt any drastic new features for 2017

I am simply D Y I N G to find out if the Performance package will be offered with the auto for 2017. I have been stressing about the following possible scenario:

I wait for the 2017 only to find out that they won't be offering the PP/auto combination and in turn I miss out on the only two colors that interest mean in Deep Impact Blue and Guard, both of which will no longer be available for the new model year.

Needless to say, I will be PISSED AS ALL HELL if this scenario plays out. Judging by the string of bad luck I've been having, I'd say it's a sure bet that I'll be sorely disapointed come the announcement...

I'm going to say NO this won't happen any time soon. If they had it for 2015 as an auto. I probably would have bought an auto PP.

But this is why I say NO. Because before the S550 mustangs you had the S197. (Taken from CJ pony parts.) "In 2010, Ford unveiled a completely redesigned Mustang that featured a plethora of new exterior and interior parts and upgrades. In an effort to improve the overall performance of the vehicle, Ford also gave Mustang buyers the option to add “Track Pack.” This special factory-installed package, which cost just under $1,500, was available for Mustang GT models equipped with manual transmissions."

So it's been 5 years already for a track/performance package and has always just been for manual transmission cars.

I can't believe people are still on this topic. There aren't going to be any changes for 2017 cars besides colors! The brochures are already out its the same damn car!
