They said they were going to but we will see. The adjuster new every part by name and by cost with only being there an hour. Knew what to look for. Sounds kind of bs to me.but if he never told them about the aftermarket parts why would they cover them. Sounds like he just got about 20,000 dollar bonus. Or some free parts for him or a buddy.

Are they going to give him any credit for the SC since they are keeping it? Seems like they should only want the stock parts if thats what they are reimbursing him for. I do know that1320chick on youtube bought a totaled whippled 18 gt though, it had the whipple still on it.

When anyone takes a vehicle and throws $$$ at it with aftermarket parts and then the car is totaled - an Ins. Co. will never reimburse for aftermarket parts, period.

The only way someone could get reimbursed is their policy was set up as:

1) an Agreed Value Policy; means the vehicle is insured for a flat agreed value between Insured and Ins. Co. If the car is total loss claim, the Insured would be paid out the agreed value and nothing more.

2) the aftermarket parts were added as an additional rider or supplemental IN ADDITION to the annual premium. In this instance the Insured would have been responsible to keep the policy updated with parts added or removed and also retain any/all documents to prove expenses if needed for future payout.

Other than that, most are SOL when it comes to a total loss claim and the Owner threw thousands at the car...

Once the car is taken to an impound lot, it’s very hard to take any physical parts off the vehicle (other than taking personal items). It’s a liability to the lot owner as well as the Ins. Co. to allow removal of physical drivetrain or suspension components.

It’s an unfortunate event, but it has to be chalked up as lesson learned in all categories.

I got lucky with my shop, my insurance guy even helped me remove the parts I took off. They put it on a lift for me too. It was a nice cadillac repair shop though, they didnt know mine was totaled for about 29 days after I crashed..

Supposedly he got on the gas a little
A little? He was flying. Residential neighborhood, that's just beyond stupid. Glad he's ok.

Normally you can remove the modification parts, and just leave the OE parts with the car, they may want you to put the OE parts back on tho, I could see that. OR you can ask them to add the aftermarket parts into any payout. One time I had a car, and it was totaled and I had just put new tires on it, and the ins company did not care they called it "normal maintenance" and therefore it was not worth anything more. Modifications do not fall into that. I ended up buying back the total for about what I had into the tires, bought another car one year newer and threw those wheels on and used my old car as a parts car... still pealing parts off of it.

Insurance company will not allow him to take off the stuff. Pretty shitty
Yeah, The prior advice of having it towed home was great advice for anyone else reading this thread.

Insurance companies can be stupid. An old lady in a Volvo wagon totaled my '95 Formula. It had expensive custom HREs and the rears and maybe one of the fronts were fine. I still had the factory wheels but her insurance company said no to a swap and paid me full retail for the set of HREs. SMH

My 2018 mustang was a total loss in December 2019 and did have aftermarket parts and was told ohh well and no you can’t remove the parts. It was nothing major like a supercharger but still wanted my old parts back!

Allstate screwed him. Said they would try to get him more money but when he called after looking at the car he new every aftermarket part he had on the car by name and what it cost. Then when he asked how much to buy the car back he said it's going to cost to much it wouldn't be worth it. kind of fishy to me. Probably going to sell the stuff himself or give it to someone else.

Pretty shitty. Sounds like the insurance adjuster is trying to come up on some free mods for himself.

If your brother has not accepted their offer - he CAN decline any offer by the Ins. Co. Don’t let the insurance company push him around....

Also if the Owner does request to buy back the vehicle - the Ins. Adjuster has to give the owner the breakout of the payout (Buy Back minus payout = total claim owner would receive AND keep the vehicle).

When my wife got into an accident, I had the car towed to a bump shop, I was able to do whatever I wanted there as I knew the owner. AFAIK you still own the car until the Insurance company strikes a deal with you. He should be able to do with the car whatever he wants, until they come to an agreement.

If he wants the car towed to his house, and pays for it, then he can take off whatever he wants. Just because you get into an accident does not mean it belongs to anyone else. You might have to pay for any impound fees and towing fees, but that will be outweighed by the value of any parts, then it should not be a second thought.

YOU STILL OWN THE CAR UNLESS YOU HAVE TAKEN PAYOUT! OTHERWISE IT IS THEFT!!!

Well they settled with him for 36000. Car only had 12,000 miles on and less then 15 months old. He signed it already so I guess it's a done deal. Somebody is going to get some good parts.

If the car was under a loan - obviously not worth it trying to buy it back at all.
