Just a question. My brother totaled his 18 mustang with a whipple. Do you know if the insurance company will allow us to take the blower off, axels, driveshaft and fuel system that is all aftermarket.? Or do they keep the car and say oh well. I tried asking around but nobody really knows. They all say you can buy the car back but who knows how much that would be.

Is there anything still salvageable from that vehicle? Hood looks like the vehicle was on fire, unless there is some other explanation why the hood looks charred. Blower is probably toast if there was a fire. And with the rear wheels not really connected to the vehicle, I'd be surprised if the axles and driveshaft don't have damage.

Just ask the insurance agency if you can remove some of the aftermarket stuff that was installed. I would imagine they get this call all the time.

No fire. Supposedly he got on the gas a little, then it broke loose and when he went to slam on the breaks he hit the gas pedal and away she went

Others have said they were told to just have OEM parts "in" the vehicle (i.e. in the trunk, back seat, whatever) and that's all that's necessary. That being said... dayum. It's tough when your brain says to hit the brake harder and you're accidentally on the gas pedal instead. I've seen it happen. Glad he's ok, sounds like.

Yes he is good. He does have all the stock parts. Hopefully he can get the aftermarket parts back.

That sucks! Hopefully your brother is ok. Should be able to swap out the aftermarket parts for the stock parts. The Whipple and fuel system are probably the only things salvageable.

Maybe the drive shaft too. But I agree that's it.

It might be to late ...but if anyone gets in a car accident do not allow the car to be delivered anywhere except your house. especially if you have expensive parts you added.
take the car home ...it is your car!!! and have the adjuster come there...once the insurance company looks at it , it will be to late and you will not be allowed to remove parts or place the original ones back on..

buying the car back in that condition ? yes you can... i will guess probably $$4-6K

here is a web sight that has sold prices for wrecked cars ... https://en.bidfax.info

Does he own the car outright or is it still under a loan?

If he owns it outright he can “buy it back”; insurance Co will give him a value for the total loss based on ACV. This excludes all aftermarket parts. Then if he wants to buy it back, the Ins Co will deduct X-value from the payout and he keeps the car. If the car is at a salvage facility, it would then be his responsibility to get the car back home.

If the car was under a loan - obviously not worth it trying to buy it back at all.

He’s lucky he didn’t cause injury to anyone outside of the vehicle - because from what you have posted - looks like he was “getting on it” in a very public setting... shame and glad he’s ok. Cars can be replaced, people can’t....

Hood isn't charred, it's called carbon fiber.

The damage on that car looks like it was going pretty fast though. People complain that the car is too long or is too heavy. In this instance, a longer, heavier vehicle could have been the life saver.
