Right, the factory dyed glass? Our CX5 has that, but only in the rear passenger windows. Front windows are not treated.
Same, back glass on my CX5 is 20. I had the front doors done 20 and it matches really well...

I believe most if not all states make it illegal to tint the front windshield. But, an 80% or even a 70% looks stock. Get it in ceramic and you’ll be fine, nobody will even notice

I saw a vid on youtube of a tint installer here in Texas who says if you take the registration sticker and pat your shirt with it a couple times, it gets lint on to it and makes removing the sticker a breeze.

i'd assume same can be done with your parking pass

Yes, get the ceramic tint film. Makes a big difference. I do not have tint on my windshield but I do use a sun shade. A ceramic film would do better but I don’t feel the need to.

Actually that is a big misconception about tint for your windshield. I tinted for 15 years before I retired almost 2 weeks ago. Even the best full ceramic film on the market, and I will go on record as to say in my opinion that would be 3M Crystalline, will not reject the amount of heat/sun light that a reflective sun shade will. That said, if you have it on the windows you will not feel the sun beating in on you while you are driving, BUT if you keep your car locked up tight outside in the sun, ie windows all the way up, with no sun shade, when you open the car to get in, it will still be HOT as hell in the car. People use to call us after they got their ceramic film and would say "man it is still hot in my car" and then we would have to explain this very thing. Every vehicle we own has full ceramic film everywhere including the windshields, but when they are out in the sun, you have to crack the windows to let the heat escape. I love to hear other people perspectives or thoughts on window tint, but I simply did it for too many years not to know what I am talking about. I am not saying ceramic tint don't help or work, but there are other things you must do to achieve a required result. Tint alone will NOT do it.

And for the record, unless the law has changed within the last 2 weeks, ANY % of tint on the full windshield of any vehicle is ILLEGAL in ALL 50 states. Some 80%'s and 70%'s are undetectable to the human eye, but if you run into an inspector who knows what to look for and is having a bad day, you WILL/CAN fail inspection. We had people who we did 70% for actually have their inspection failed simply because their inspector was having a bad day. I know it sucks, trust me, but it does happen.

I agree, the car will still warm to at least outside temps if not more. 70%-80% isn’t blocking a whole lot of light so it’s still allowing additional heating via sunlight to occur. As you mentioned, it does help when driving, you don’t feel like you’re totally getting baked. And I where I park when commuting for work, the sun does face my driver’s side at some point in the day. I’ve noticed ever since I got my windows tinted that my steering wheel and shifter don’t give me 3rd degree burns anymore, so there definitely is some help there. I do also think they help the inside of the car cool down with AC quicker, but that might be in my head.

I’ve used sun shades for as long as I can remember. I like them plus there’s a few Mustang specific designs out there that look pretty cool in addition to being effective. Covercraft is what I have, they make a quality product IMO. I do think a combo of tint and sun shade would be pretty effective, but you are correct that cracking a window to let heat escape is also needed. I don’t typically do that as I’m not close enough to roll up my windows in the event we get a pop up shower in the summer time.

Get yourself a Hurst Billet shifter handle, it's hotter than hell NO MATTER what you do, lol.

Some states like Florida have a medical exemption for windshield tint. All three of my cars are on an exemption list through the state due to my wife’s condition.

yes there are medical exemptions, but you have to read them closely. I can't speak for anyone's exemption except NC's. There are certain things that HAVE to be done or it can still be failed.

Something that should be considered is how much night driving you are doing.

I have xpel 5% sides and back and front at 50% and I love it. Sometimes I wish I went 35% on the front. I have been pulled over by the staties ,not for windows, nothing was said about the windows, but I roll both windows down when I get pulled over.

If the car is sitting in the sun it's hot inside. When I drive into the sun so glad I have the tint. No need for sunglasses.

Make sure you get a quality installer. I found a great local guy from California in my area who even shaved the tint on the side. Other guys in my area didn't have a clue.

As for night driving: if you go dark like I did in an urban environment it's not to bad but you better pay attention because it can be a pain to see at night. I live in rural area and night driving sucks when I have to make a turn.

If you have a convertible I wouldn't tint the front if you do any driving at night with the top down. You will not see at all as a friend of mine found out the hard way.

What does “shaving the tint on the side” mean?

The tint is over sized then shaved down to fit the edge of the window instead of a precut size that is moved into place which can leave a gap. The tint goes to the miro edge of the window with no gaps at all.

Yeah I have same concern with pop up afternoon showers

Does that covercraft work well with dash cams too? I have a cheap shade that works OK but is giant pita with dash cam

I haven’t installed my dash cam yet but I have the Fitcam X, which fits in the housing for the speed sensing thing (my brain is not remembering exactly what it’s called for whatever reason) under the mirror. So it will be the same fitment and won’t block the camera

The Covercraft shades are made to specifically fit the Mustang windshields so it’s a nice fit. Depending on what kind of cam you have and where it’s mounted I would think you’d be ok.

This is the one I have except is has the tribar logo in black (doesn’t appear they make the tribar one anymore, at least not the black logo)
